Broke down and got a pred pack | Arthritis Information

I got my remicade on April 17, and it still hasn't kicked in. I think between the stress of 2 kids with mono, and just feeling crummy myself, I've gone into a big time flare..

I'm sleeping from 830 pm to 630, then heading back to bed around 9 until 1130 or so then back when jake has his pm nap. I can't cook, I can't clean, I can't think. I'm coughing up my lungs too.. I just feel awful.. soooooo

Today I called my RD and asked for the directions for a pred pack.. I took 20 mg at 4 pm and I seem a little better.. You all know me and my aversion to pred.. but this time I couldnt keep taking vicodin and tramadol, and flexeral, and having nothing work.

Wish me luck

The kids slept a long time this afternoon, but neither had a fever today. yesterday they were both up to around 102.

The dr told me it sould run its course in 4-6 week, and we think Jake has had it about a week, and Ally 3 weeks.. lucky us.

Any chance you are coming down with Mono too Kathy? I sure hope not.

You hang in there. You've got a lot to deal with; and with your own health problems on top of it all I'm sure you are worn out.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Oh good luck, on the pred pack (what's that?), I hope it works. Yes the stress of sick children can make your crazy. Sarah

Kathy,

Don't feel bad. Sometimes you just have to do it. It is no good for your health to be having such a bad flare either. I had to do pred packs 4 times in the last 10 months. My sed rate was in the 80s each time. I hated it too, but I don't know how I would have done without. Just don't worry about it and get better. You need to be well for your family.

Go into survival mode. Forget doing anything that isn't absolutely essential. If you need to rest and you have the opportunity to do so, grab on. With two sick kids with mono, it is a complete recipe for exhaustion. Did they test you for mono? It would be so easy for you to have gotten it.

These conditions do bring on the necessity for a Pred pack.

Hurts, a Pred pack is where they give you a tapered dose of prednisone. I've never had it called that. My doctor just had me go up to 40 for a certain amount of days, down to 20 for certain amount, down to 10 and then down again. The idea is to give you a quick boost of Pred and then get you off again.
You can get a tapered dose of pred in a "pack".  They come all labled out for you when you need to take them.  They are 4mg pills and you take 6 the first day (usually I do all 6 at once and most others do too) and then follow the directions on the pack for the other 6 days.  It is kind of a fast taper but a low dose taper.  It works really well for me on top of maintenance dose if I don't wait too long to call for one.  Take care of yourself Kathy and hope you're feeling better soooooooon!! Hi, Thanks so much, I'll remember that if I ever git of of these 5mgs. I'm on until the end of the month. Having some stiff fingers today. MTX tomorrow., Sarah
