In today's Wall Street Journal, there's an article "Surge in Arthritis Is Forecast".  While the article focuses on the increase in prevalance and the resulting costs, rather than on how to prevent and treat the diseases, I believe this is the way we're going to get the nation's attention...when it hits them in the wallet.

Here's a link, but it only shows the start of the article:

Good research, perhaps you could forward this article to Dr. Phil and to Oprah, that would give them a heads up on what's going on with this disease, and how it is increasing! What causes this we ask??Sarah

What causes this we ask?

well most researchers will tell you that the number of people with arthritis is caused by more people being diagnosed with osteoarthritis because of the aging baby boomers and the obesity epidemic

I'm willing to ride along with the aging osteo sufferers if it gets some awareness, funding and research coming our way.  It's scary how little people know about arthritis, and yet it affects 20% of the adult population in the US.

A bump on my favorite cause, prenatal vitamins:

Women exposed to DES before birth (in the womb), known as DES Daughters, are at an increased risk for clear cell adenocarcinoma (CCA) of the vagina and cervix, reproductive tract structural differences, pregnancy complications, infertility, and auto-immune disorders. Although DES Daughters appear to be at highest risk for clear cell cancer in their teens and early 20s, cases have been reported in DES Daughters in their 30s and 40s (Hatch, 1998).
