Shoe In: I Heart Keens! | Arthritis Information

Ever since I got my first pair of Keens they're the only shoes I buy. I have a lot of problem with my feet and I can stay in my Keens day in and out. There's lots of room for my cranky toes. The insole comes out so I can put my orthotics in, and they come in a wide range of styles from work shoes to dress shoes. And the company has a social conscience. Check out Keens! They look great!!! Are they pretty pricey?*cringes in horror*

They look SO comfy, but, but, they aren't very pretty. *sobs*

I hate that I have a closet full of GORGEOUS heels, that I can rarely wear!!!   A little bit...they range from about to 0 CDN, but they're really well made, have a lot of support, and they last a super long time.

I'm not one of those ladies that LOVE buying shoes---in fact, I have about 3-4 pair I wear and that's it. Tennies, brown sandals, black sandals, and a loafer type shoe. I bought 2 of them from Land's End....hmm, probably 3-4 years ago. I did spend quite a bit on them, but they were worth it. THey've last a long time. (in my opinion...as much as I wear them) So I wouldn't have a problem buying the Keen's..they look like they'd be worth the money. My job is pretty casual too, so I think I could get away with their look.

Thanks for the info!!I think some of the styles are cute---I bought my first pair for their look. But I was hoping this thread would start some shoe talk. Arthritics have limited shoe options so I thought it would be nice to share any brands we find great.

Midge; I so know what you mean!! My feet aren't that bad, but I do go through spells where they are worse than other times. Here recently I've been doing about two days a week cute shoes.....and three days sensable shoes (work week). Weekends are for flip flops or crocs! (Or work boots if I'm up to it!) lol I can't do it like i use to. I've got a closet full of great shoes I hardly ever wear anymore.

I broke down and got me some crocs last month. I haven't had the nerve to wear them away from the house yet.....but I'm lovin them at home! They really are comfortable. They look rediculous though; but I see tons of people wearing them.

Those look comfy!  What about croc shoes?  About in my area and they are very popular for arthritic feet and hospital workers love them.

Thanks for the info Gimpy, I'm gonna check them out!

For cold weather (I have Raynaud's) I live in boiled wool clogs with an indoor/outdoor sole by Haflinger, a German company. I wear them everywhere and my feet are never cold anymore. They are available from Footsmart and other places.  I also go to a local shoe shop that specializes in foot problems, mostly diabetics - the only brand of athletic shoe she carries is New Balance.  I have had very good luck with them.  As for heels, well I have pictures of myself wearing them once upon a time, and that's about it. I will ask my shoe store lady about Keens.  Thanks for the tip!  PatI can only wear keens also. I have tried them all for my job and keen does
not make white ones so the hospital allows me to wear whatever color I want
since good shoes are so important for me to do my job. But I absolutely
love them.   I have to agree about the cuteness. Many of them are so ugly.
The buckleovers just do not do it for me. I love the slip ons and bought a
pair of the sandels last summer and they are so nice. They need to expand
their line and maybe improve the colors. I tried to find a web site for them
to find out if they planned on making them in white but they do not have a
site.....that I can find. I wear Homypeds and have orthotic inserts to put in them, they are very comfy and a little pricey but not too bad at about .00 Aus.  Regards Janie

Lovie- It took me ages to wear my crocs in public

I like the look of the KEENS too so I am looking for somewhere to buy them in the UK.

Hi Robin, I really like the Sarasota's. Expecially the red ones. Thank you so much for sending these 'keen' shoes on to us with our 'messed up' feet. I wear a variety of shoes that are really ugly, like Walmar's equivalent to Dr.Shoals!, it is like wearing the boxes in comfort, but they are only and perfect for walking the deep sand on the beach. I jsut got some 'nice' sandals , and wear Reebock tennis shoes for everything else. Don't 'dress up' much but have some low heeled strappy things for that......thse shoes look like fun, and I'll try to find them out here on the west coast? SarahHas anyone here tried Dansco's. That is what the majority of our nurses
wear and they swear by them but they are the worst shoes that I have ever
had to wear. I paid 110 for them and gave them a way a week later. I could
not walk after a shift was over due to them. My feet are badly affected by
the RA, so I'm sure that was the problem. I know people that love Daskos but they're too narrow for me.

I love Crocs too, but I usually only wear them around the house or at the pool.

I absolutely love shoes...My closet looks like I'm in competition with Emelda Marcos.

I love Merrell Mocs medium pricey - . They wear really well. I have an odd gait that causes shoes to 'walk over' - these don't do it. They are extremely well cushioned. They are not as big and clunkly as Dancos and athelitic shoes - I trip over my own feet in lots of those.

I'm trying Wolky Sandals this summer - they are so homely they are cute.  They have triple velcro straps so they should adjust to most feet. Helpful right now 'cause left foot is swollen across the arch and terribly tender.

I found them at www.sierratradingpost.com. They have a lot of high end shoes for discount prices including Merrells, Mephistos, and sometimes Berkenstocks.

Lovie, I love hand bags too. I would love to make one of those crazy ones
that is all jacked up with bling. Aren't they fun!

I've had my shoe fetish so long I can't remember not having it! I am looking for magic shoes...beautiful and no foot pain.

As you can see, I'll probably be looking for those shoes for all of eternity. There may be peace in the middle east before I find them, but I doubt it.

I am grateful for every little bit of foot help. I think a lot of us do not know what a huge difference the right footwear makes in the quality of life. I also think a lot of people have no clue of what to try...foot pain may be a new thing.
