Blackouts and/or lower backaches? | Arthritis Information

This morning I got up to take a shower and my dh had to catch me before
I totally blacked out...I felt lightheaded and woozy. I have also had
terrible lower back pain since yesterday.

Any thoughts? I'm on MTX, Enbrel.

I would call your doctor right away and ask to be seen.

It could be a combination of meds. or a reaction to a med. Or with the back pain, it could be a kidney infection or other kidney problem.

Please let us know how you are doing.

Take care,

Nini

Blood Pressure???

Vertigo??
Kiwilass239210.6134953704My first thought was a drop in blood pressure, definitely call your doctor.   Oh boy....call your Dr ASAP!! Sounds scary!!! Thanks you all-I forgot to mention that I did see the doctor and they
found nothing wrong w/kidneys (did a urinalysis) and they thought it was
a vasa vagal? drop in blood pressure thing.

I guess I was just wondering if anyone had ever had both symptoms
together...The lightheadedness and lower back pain.

I am wondering if it is ra related...

Thank you all for posting.Lots of lower back pain here at times....but never this black out thing. That does sound scary. Glad you've seen a doctor; and glad your husband was in the shower with you .Well, one reason to vaso vagal is when you have a bowel movement. It can
drop your heart rate very low and cause passing out. The low back pain can
occur if you are constipated. could this be the cause? I know it is a personal
question, but there is a connection there. If this is not the case and it
continues, you should really follow up with your doctor.

I have had what they call an exaggerated vasovagal response which occurred with the sudden onset of abdominal cramps followed by (sorry) diarrhea with or without nausea & vomiting.  It has happened 3 times, twice at home, where I was just barely able to make it a few steps into bed, and once out where I proceeded to actually faint.  One time was evidently caused by food poisoning, another by a huge dose of penicillin prescribed prophylactically by the dentist for mitral valve prolapse, and one I never figured out the reason.  I didn't have back pain per se, but perhaps abdominal pain was perceived as backpain, or as Lorster suggested, it may be related to constipation.

I know how scary it can be, so please discuss it with your doc at your next appt.    All the best, Pat

Arthmom...how are you doing?  You are all so sweet to respond to my query...Thanks.

No subsequent fainting spells so I'm assuming that it was a viso vagal?
sp? response. And yes, I had just made a deposit at the "bank" that
morning when I first got up

My father in law had the same theory as lorster about the drop in blood
pressure. A great theory and I think it was right.

But the bachache continues. Lots of Naproxin, which like most of you I
have in good supply at home! I am just hoping I pulled muscles and that
the ache isn't related to RA!

Thank you all for posting and for following up grammaskittles
