is anyone taking hormones.? I have so far stayed away from them despite lots of hotflashes.

wondering if hormones might make a difference as far as PMR is concerned?

Marianne,

I have been on hrt for several years--love them-you take them away and I kill. When I first got ill, Dr took me off of every thing including the hrt and my lipator. Wanted to make sure they were not causing some of my problems. When the sed rate came back and the 1st dosage of predisone helped, I was put back on all of the above. My point is the hot fashes had gone away, but with the predisone they are back-In a big way. It is amazing how fast I can strip..

Lonna

I bet I can outstrip you!!!!

so you have proved that hormones do not cause PMR but also it does not help it.

Marianne,

I think accumulated stress lead me to pmr.Even now if I have a stressful situation, I can count on having a few bad days-after the situation is over. I do okay during, but know I am going to be in trouble afterwards. And the weight is wierd. My appetite is way off, but the weight is awful. 20 lbs is 6 weeks. I have pockets of soft, puffy tissue. I swear if I could put in a needle hocked up to a vacuum- I could lose 20 lbs of water right under my skin.

Hi Lonna....I firmly believe stress had a lot to do w/PMR gaining a foothold in this poor ol' bod...my immune system, adrenal glands, whatever, just couldn't take it any more.  And...like you....when I have stressful situations arise these days , I know the pmr will gain a foothold again a day or so and kick back at me.  This tells me I don't handle stress very welll...duh

There is much similarity with PMR and the above. It seems to boil down to having an immune system under attack. Doing things to strengthen the immune system is what my Stanford Doc advises: walking, stretching, meditating, positive thinking, knowing how much to 'push' and when to rest.

He is a believer in stress as the trigger to weakening the immune system response over time- so learning to handle stress is imperative.

My big struggle is how much to push myself to be involved in as much as I possibly can and yet not end up in tremendous flare-up pain.

What is working for you all for the pain as you taper off prednisone?

I'm down to 8 mg prednisone and I have a run-in with the train every morning around 10-11-Wham! pain and exhaustion hits and I have to rest pretty much from then on. He plans to retest my labs after I'm down to 5 mg prednisone as he thinks I may have some Lupus involvement.

Hope you Mom's out there have a wonderful Mother's Day.

Karen

I think it almost impossible to push yourself with this, let alone having something else going on.

I think it helps to be with a program like Curves or in PT maybe. Dance to music so it does not seem a project?

Hormones....I think of Prednisone when I think of hormones, as it is a steroid.

Body and adrenal glands have to handle it just like the others and there is the danger in withdrawel from it. The adrenal glands. I lost a friend because she came off prednisone for her lupus and it hit her kidneys ect.

Got to be sooo careful.
