safest pain medication? | Arthritis Information

Has anyone done the research and formed an opinion on which anti imflamatories/pain medications are safest?

are you asking about pain meds or NSAIDS?  Despite commecial claims they really are 2 different classes of medication

right now the jury is back out on NSAIDS your goal on either type of medication is the stay on the minimal effective dose as you can.  If you need them long term as most of us do then make sure your doctor is doing appropriate liver and kidney function tests and that your risk of cardiac problems is monitored

i found the best pain medication i have been on is tramadol. i have had no side effects from them. i take 2x200mg sustained release ones a day . i still get a lot of pain but they work pretty well . if i forget to take one i know all about it.

Is Tramadol antiimflammatory?

I am worried about taking mobic daily, but my rd says don't expect it to help unless I take it everyday.  I have bloodwork done for kidneys and liver but how do you know if it's causing heart problems?

hi jodi, no tramadol isnt classed as an anti-inflammatory it is a pain killer called an opiate it doesnt mean its opium it means it acts on the pain the same way but is not addictive , very few if any side effects and very safe. my partner is taking brufen at the moment they are similar to mobic. they can both be harmful whereas the tramadol is much safer.

I take Tramadol as well but I only take it at night. Although it's not that string I don't like taking pain medication while I work.

If you have a lot of inflammation then you do need an NSAID for that. "Pain Medications" do not help that. an anti-inflammatory will actually reduce the inflammation.
