Prednisone...I have a silly question | Arthritis Information

My RD has perscribed 10 mg pills.  I was wondering if you folks ever split your pill and take half in the morning and the other half around noon time... ?

My pain starts coming back around 4:00 pm and I was just wondering if it would be okay to take half my dose in noon to address my issue.

Toycarlvr...

I am on 10mg a day as well. In the beginning I took one 5mg in the am and one in the pm. Rd told me to take both because the later you take it, the more possibilities of it keeping you up at night.
Blessed39216.8914814815I've taken it both ways and gotten the same results.  Also, I know insomnia is a side effect of prednisone but it was never a problem with me.  Hi, yes I've split up the dose, but the closer I got to the evening the more I had night sweats....ugh. So, I went back to taking the whole thing in the morning. I'm trying to get off of it without any success, now because I still have stiffness in my hands the doc may have me taking 15 instead of the 10mgs I'm now taking. Don't want to go up! in dosage. This is taking so long to find meds that work for me. sarahI tried splitting mine into two 12 hour doses.  This helped reduce the pain a lot.  However my doc told me to stop this practice because it had the same effect on my adreanal (sp) glands as a higher dose of prednasone.

Thank you all for the Help!!

Well...because of the replies I'll just take my 10 mg pill in the morning

I'm really scared the Pred...

I take my pred (5mg) at night, well... it is really early morning because I stay up until 2-3 am. I have always been a night owl even way before pred. Anyways... I take my pred before I go to sleep so I will not be so stiff, swelled and hurting because I have to tend to my son and it helps me to be able to do that. Besides the pred for me no longer lasts like it use to, so by the time hubby gets home from work I am already starting to get stiffer, swell more and problems moving about.

I have been put on 5mg 2 times a day, but like Binge said it did not really make a difference. For me the only thing that makes a difference for me in the sleepless nights department is anything over 10mg. I was on 15mg at one time and I could not sleep for nothing, even when I was asleep I was not asleep. *shrugs shoulders*
