Curious question...

I have had nodules for a while now on my hands / fingers (middle joint) but, of late they are itching, burning, cracking and VERY painful.   Is this normal?   Do they always itch or crack?    I can't stand to even straighten my fingers or move my wrists of late.

Thank you all for your input !!!!

Hello Olive-At my last Rheumy appt I was showing the Dr. and kinda chuckling about how my fingers would catch as I was opening and closing my hand. She told me that it is VERY IMPORTANT that I let her know everytime this happens because its my tendons catching on nodules in the palm of my hand.  She then gave me a steroid shot in each nodule (Very painful!

 Take care-Julie

Olive,

I also could not fully open my hand and it was very painful.  I went to see my hand specialist.  He told me the problem was with the tendons in my hand.  He said there were two options.  First a cortisone shot and then surgery if the shot didn't help.  I got 2 cortisone shots in the palm side of my hand.  If you are having this problem please have it taken care of.  If your tendons rupture you will have even more problems.

Thank you all for your help and concern,

But, is it also normal to have them itch, crack and hurt so badly?

Thank you all again !!!!

Yes it is painful.  I don't know about the itching unless it is from the inflammation.  Are you talking about your skin cracking or a cracking sound? As for the popping, My mom had this it is called trigger finger. I have it but only once in a while. She had surgery and couldn't be happier her hand was back to normal within 3 days!

As for the other I hace no idea I would def. call your dr.
