I often receive booklets from some people promoting alternate treatments. One of these was the use of gin-soaked raisins to treat arthritis. The exact receipt was not revealed.

Anyone ever heard of this or tried it?

I've heard other speak of it in one of the older threads....but I thought they were joking

Welcome Clayton. You might want the check the archives.

I expect the alcohol will ease the pain, Clayton. I've heard of something like this, but haven't tried it. Trouble is, there are so many different types of arthritis. I think people get confused and folk remedies get handed down that might have worked for one thing but don't necessarily work for others. I'm taking:

Turmeric (which contains curcuminoids) 400mg 3x/day

Boswellia (an herbal medicine for bowel conditions as well as RA) 400mg 3x/day

MSM 750mg 3x/day

Ginger (raw fresh root finely chopped, which also contains curcuminoids, as well as other anti-inflammatory ingredients) a minimum of 1000mg 3x/day, and more if I feel a flare coming on.

Fish oil 1000mg 3x/day

Evening Primrose oil 3x/day

I have also become (almost) vegetarian – and follow something that could loosely be described as a Mediterranean diet (olive oil, garlic, etc.)

In combination this all does seem to help me - but as I'm sure you know RA is a very variable disease and I couldn't say if it will help you.

Sorry not to be be more useful to you.

Hi there,

I have also read and found from experimenting on my brother

They are tomato, potato, eggplant and pepper.

To see if you are sensitive avoid all of them for a week or so and then add them back one at a time to see if it makes a difference.

My brother found that tomato is a trigger for a flare up, for him. This is a real bummer because he loves tomato sauce, tomato and mozzarella sandwiches, tomato in his salad ,,,, etc.

Best,

I have a form of RA (Stills Disease) and I am currently taking the following supplements on a daily basis.
