Most of us know that sugar and fried foods feed inflamation  but what do you do when you are addicted to sugar??? I have gone off of sugar many times in my life; once for 4 years with no sugar of any kind. Since I have had RA I know that I know it is not good for me but when I go off I feel like I am climbing the walls. I have been on pred for the last 15 months and that does not help. Last week I bought a bag of keebler rich and chips ( my favorties) and actually had to stop the car and throw out the rest of the bag before I ate the whole bag! I feel like a lung cancer patient that won't stop smoking. any success stories out there? h2osign39222.67125Hi, I had to give up coffee with caffeine and sugar, so I've been drinking lots of herb tea with those non-sugar packets. I suppose they aren't good for you either, but I can't fight all the battles at once. I'm trying to take off weight because of the prednisone as I keep gaining with the water retention and because of the RA I don't exercize as much, because of all this my life has changed. So, I drink lots of herb tea!! Congratulations on throwing out the cookies!! That bad for you stuff is everywhere in the supermarkets, drug stores, etc., and we just scoop them up. Good job. SarahSugar is my Waterloo.Carbs in general are my addiction.  Pasta satisfies me when nothing else will, and I know it's terrible for me, but I love it so much!  I feel the same way, I know I need to stop this stuff, but how on earth do you do it and stay sane?Being from the south, "Fried" foods are my big down fall! Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em. I could NOTgive up All my fried foods. I think it would be a sin, or at least it should be.

Sorry.....  where was it you threw those cookies out.....  I need to know.... they might still be there...

I am a sugar addict.  My doc told me on Friday to go cold turkey, so I am feeling very bitchy at the moment.  I have had a little bit of honey on my cereal.  I am insulin impaired and DON'T want to follow the rest of my aunts, grandmother and cousin with diabetes.  I have to get the weight off.  We bought an exercise bike last week so I am trying to get on it everyday and gradually building up my time.

My success story is throwing out meds almost 2 decades for arthritis. Prior to that I was totally dependant on drugs to ease pain and suffering. Without drugs life was difficult then. When the disease advanced to a level that drugs dwindled its effectiveness to incapable of controlling basic pain. Like many patients I had tried many alternatives but were not successful. When situation came to a dead end it actually created an opportunity to venture out seriously and positively. Life was meaningless with pain and suffering all year round. Drugs only knocked me off rather then controlled pain.

I have been posting appropriate wild lingzhi formula and correct natural foods can gradually reverse arthritis to a cure. To day I do not have to take wild lingzhi formula but drink wild lingzhi tea/pills intermitently as nutritional foods and eat correct natural foods diet. For all these years I have developed the awareness of foods.

I can move my own world so can you

Herbs and natural foods is a different scope. Just like many know that sugar and fried foods are bad

I do not go for extreme like not drinking coffee or taking sugar. But I selectively drink pure Arabica coffee unlike Robusta coffee. Arabica coffee usually grow in many thousand feet above sea level and Robusta coffee in lowland area. The quality is difference. As for sugar, I choose not to take refined sugar I take wild honey (if availabe) instead. Arabica coffee also help people who have asthmas.

I often choose not to eat acidic fruits and abstain certain veges that are not good for arthritics.

Eat and drink selectively and correctly is the key.

There's an herb called Stevia (Look it up online). You can buy a box of individual packets. It's the leaf of the licorice plant I believe but anyway, it's sweeter than sugar, but not sugar! I sprinkle it on my cereal. you only need a very little bit because it's sooooo sweet. You can substitute that in iced tea etc. I don't like things like Nutrasweet because I sort of feel like a lab mouse with someone experimenting on me.

AS far as pasta goes, I've discovered Barilla Plus. It tastes like regular pasta, but it's made with flax, ground chickpeas etc and has less carb (thus less sugar). Believe me, you will not taste any difference! It costs more but if you have it once a week it's no big deal. Try it and let me know what you think. I always use 93% lean beef too but then again I don't eat too much red meat. I eat a lot of ground turkey - much to husband's dismayHi from one sugar addict to another - I seem to crave it
and chocolate is even worse or better whichever way you look at it.   Have you heard of Stevia - you buy it from your health food store and can get it in a powder, drops or in a green powder form. The green powder is horrible but the powder and drops are really good.   It is a natural product, from South America from memory and has been used there for hundreds of years and has no known side effects.   It is quite expensive but you use minute amounts i.e. 1/4t for muffins etc and I think it was Lorster from this board who tried it in coffee and thought it was really good. Doesnt affect your blood sugar either - there is info on the net about it.   I need to use it more often than I do.   I have a theory we crave sugar because of the fatigue that goes with RA and we get that instant energy lift with sugar but unfortunately the lift doesnt last and we end up feeling worse. I have used it in muffins and couldnt tell the difference from using sugar.
Hope this helps.stevia works!!!  I am also a carb-a-holic.  I have slowly pulled back and it does make a huge difference.  I'm trying to add more proteins to my diet and to eat more fruits and veggies which is really easier said than done.  I guess we all have to sit down and decide what really matters to us.  I know that improving my diet will improve my quality of life.  I cut out fried foods years ago and it's one of the best things I ever did.  was it hard?? yup.  I grew up in an "everything fried" family.  but it wasn't impossible.  good luck!

I didnt know that certain foods could set off inflamation?? This is completely new to me... Ok so when I eat sugar I sometimes get this tingle in my face and have to stop ... I tell everyone that im sweating sugar being funny of course.... Anyways everyone tells me im insane and they dont know what im talkin about. Anyways does anyone else do that? Is that RA related. Im gonna have to see if any food sets me off cause this is all news to me. I still aint seen my RA my appt is the 23rd and this weekend was aweful.
