Rheumatoid Factor # | Arthritis Information

I am interested to know if anyone here has a really high rheumatoid factor # and if so, how high?  Mine is very high and I am concerned.

How high is your RA factor?  Mine is elevated but not near as high as I've seen on this board.

My rheumy told me that some people can have really high factors and have
very minimal complaints and others can have borderline factors and have
severe pain/inflammation/deformity. Also, seropositive and seronegative
dont seem to coorelate with symptoms. I actually was seropositive at 95
when I started and am seronegative today. I don't think this test is really of
any use with this disease as it makes no sense to many.

I agree with Lorster.  It really has very little bearing on the outcome.  There are so many other factors to take into consideration.

Would you believe 600???  I get around just fine.  My feet are a little sore and my hands are also.  My fingers have some lumps and my wrist, but I have no problem doing anything but opening some things. I am new here on this forum and I think it is going to be very helpful to me.  I have read where high rheumatoid factors can possibly be an indication of other diseases.

WOW~ I don't think I've heard of it that high.  Maybe someone with more experience will chime in soon.

My RD says that a high anti-CCP is more indicative of severe disease process.  If memory serves the anti-ccp is 95% accurate for RA.

Many people have Rheumatoid factor that do not have RA.  So it seems to me that with new, more accurate tests the RF is not going to be that important for too much longer.

What do you think?  Have you guys heard the same things?

Hi Mstry, I had an ESR of 468 and I was in agony, I know my CRP was elevated also and anti CCP, Rheumy said I had all the markers to diagnose RA, now I think the RF is in the low 100's and that is on Pred and MTX.  My ESR however keeps going up at present 47 and we are waiting for the MTX to work,  best of luck, go on how you feel as sometimes my markers are low but the pain quite intense.  Love Janie.

My rheumatoid factor is 658. And anti CCP is 250+.

I don't have the usual symptoms in my hands and feet. My hands are often swollen, but it is the whole hand, not individual joints. My thumbs are severely damaged by OA. I had a joint replacement surgery on left thumb 4 weeks ago. My right thumb had surgery 2 years ago, where  they use a tendon rolled up to replace the damaged joint, but the surgery failed within 6 months, now my r. hand has limited usage. Without use of a thumb you are pretty limited.

I have many other symptoms of RA, however. Fatigue, joint pain in many of the joints in my body. They say I have OA and RA, sometimes it is hard to tell which is causing the pain.

My rheumatologist said that with my rheumatoid factor and CCP so high, there is no doubt that I have RA. Also we can't seem to get the CRP and Sed rate down. I also have Sjogren's.

Good luck and welcome!

If the rheumatoid factor is positive its positive...for most people it has little bearing on anything other than diagnosis.  Its simply not a number to obsess over once treatment has started.  Be more concerned with the sed rate and the CRP rate which are the measures of active inflammation

Comparing the number is difficult because there are multiple ways of performing the test which each having a different range

Even elevated CRP and ESR can mean other things than RA. They can be
elevated with so many other problems. I agree with Crispy. I don't think the
RF is going to be a good indicator for much longer. And I'm no longer going
to authorize this lab draw and waste my money. i would rather rely on the
CRP and ESR.
