Is My Pain Backwards??? | Arthritis Information

I think my pain is sometimes backwards. I don't feel the aching in my joints as much until I sit down to rest. Is that the way RA works?

I have been off the Prednisone for about 5 days now. My hands and feet have stiffened up, and are quite achey. Should I get back on the Prednisone or just try to take my anti-inflammitories?

I will be out of touch for three days beginning tomorrow. I am beginning a 3 day potty training program with my little one. The program requires me to be glued to Noah the entire time. So I will be back online late at night or Thursday. So I will not be ignoring anyone. If you can ride it out, do it. But if you are not able to function, you will have
to rethink it. I hate to see you on the pred, course you know how I feel
about this horrid drug. I'll be thinking about you for the next three days and
yes, I will feel exhausted everytime I think about this potty training program,
lol. Good luck and keep me posted. Huggs.   Oh, btw, have you tried the
fish oil and flaxseed yet? Natural antiinflammatories. Please try them too.
They may help. Certainly cannot hurt. Thanks Lorster!  I take the fish oil at night. Some one posted that they buy the enteric
coated type at costco but I have never seen it at our costco.   I buy whole
flaxseed and grind it as I use it. (I keep it in the freezer) A coffee grinder
words great. I usually put it in my hot cereal. I also throw it in my bread
when I bake bread. It has a nice nutty flavor. I eat it everytday. I do
think it has helped my general feeling of wellness. Do you have any
Flexeril you can take for the stiffness? And taking the NSAIDs may help
you too. You are going through a lot right now with stopping smoking
and the RA. The stiffness and achiness will improve as the plaquinil takes
effect. It is too bad you can't put off potty training until your body feels
better and you have more energy. Maybe you are taking on too much
right now. You certainly do not needed more stress right now. You
certainly do not need a flare. I have to work tomorrow night so maybe I'll
catch up with you the next few days. Let me know how it is going.

Pain and stiffness can be worse at rest Lisa, thats why they measure morning stiffness as being a diagnosis in RA.I hope you feel better soon.Good luck with the potty training

Should I get back on the Prednisone or just try to take my anti-inflammitories?

We are not doctors that kind of question should be directed towards him and its his advice you should be listening to not a bunch of strangers, however expereinced, you met on the internet.  We all like to help but we are not familiar with your specific medicial condition and could easily give you incorrect advice. Call your doctor

I gotta agree with Buckeye on that. I've been on predisone more times than I can count since my original Dx but never once have I gone off and on and up and down on my predisone without my doctors supervision. It's real improtant to do as your doctor directed. If you are at a point where your doctor has gotten you off the predisone I certainly wouldn't start taking it again without his knowledge. You are of course going to feel a change; but you will adjust to it. Give it a little time. This is where so many people end up getting into trouble with predisone.

As far as stiffness and aches go; yes. I can do all kind of things and then go to sit for a bit and when I try to get up again WAM! I am reminded all too well of my situation. Pins exactly right. I also agree that in the evenings when we finally get in a position to rest we do focus more on the pain and stiffness. Not that it's not increased.....but it is also that we focus on it more.

Hope you feel better soon....and the potty training goes well. I so remember those times.

Just a helpful idea, if you will put your fish oil pills in the freezer they won't leave that awful fishy taste in your mouth and you won't burp them either. A friend of mine told me this and i thought she was crazy but it actually works. Just take them frozen. I hope you can stay off the pred.  The longer you are on it the harder it will be to get off, and as women, we need to think about its effects on our bones down the road.  We don't need to add more problems (and pain) to what we already have.  That being said, I have read recently that a number of docs think 5 mgs or or less per day is not a dangerous dose.  I still think none is best.  As for fish oil, Wal-Mart carries one by Spring Valley that is enteric coated for no fishy aftertaste.  It works. If you have any problem with heartburn or GERD I would recommend it.  Burping up that fishy taste is really gross (sorry!)    Pat

Dear Lisa, fish oil gave me flatulation, which I don't need.

I don't know what to say about getting off Pred, as when I tried last month I was in such pain, and agony they increased it from 5 to 10mgs. I've been taking the 10 and now I can start to go down 1mg a week.....I hope it works as I want off of it.

lol, with the potty training , poor little things, they are so smart, but this must be a tough one? Such darlings, what you are worrying about one day they are way past and on to something new and (exciting), the next day. The life of a child is in such different 'time frames' than us.....

I think Lisa did follow her doctors advice when going off her pred. She
followed his lead and went off of it. She has said in previous posts that she
does not want to take this med and is trying to find other ways to take care
of her pain. She is trying to be patient, and pain free while avoiding the
pitfalls of pred. There are other means besides pred to help with pain. Don't
just fall for the pred everytime. This is a horrible med and is holding many
of you prisoners and you don't even realize it. Go and work in a hospital for
a week and look at what you see as a result of this med. It is an absolute life
saver in some instances, but very overused and abused. Lisa, don't go back
on it without consulting your doctor but if you can, get him to look at other
options before you do this. Doctors are quick to prescribe this because it
works quick. but for long term use, no way.

I take fish oil 3 times a day and have never had a "fishy" aftertaste.
Have you tried "tinkle targets"?

PJ

I think the aching is there all the time but when you sit down to rest or HHU try to go to sleep, it really calls attention to itself. While we are up and about our attention is focused else where. Hobbies and interesting books, converstion, etc will make those quite times less achy. (Keep your mind occupied with good stuff, while relaxing)

My worst time is trying to shut down to go to sleep. Everything just HURTS ...
