EYE INFLAMMATION?? | Arthritis Information

I  HAVE BEEN SHARING WITH  YOU THE PROBLEMS I'VE BEEN HAVING WITH MY EYES.  DIAGNOSED WITH DRY EYE FROM THE INFLAMATION FROM RA AND GIVEN RESTASIS AND IT'S HELPED S O M E. MY EYES ARE STILL BLOOD RED MY THE END OF THE DAY AND KILLING ME.  I CAN BARELY OPEN THEM BY THE EVENING.  IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING EYE PROBLEMS??My eyes have been really bothering me too. I really
start noticing it about 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon
and by the time I'm ready for bed they are dry,
stinging, red and painful.

Makes me feel extra tired too! I do have some
'moisture replenish' eye drops, but don't use them
too often. They do help a little though.

Yes, I have dry eye syndrome too. It had gotten so bad I could barley see a few feet in front of me and thought I needed stronger glasses. My eyes were "cloudy", red and sore all the time. I was miserable.

I found a doc who specializes in the cornea and he fixed me up. I had been taking restasis but it wasn't doing much. So they put tiny plugs in my tear ducts (punctal plugs) to keep the tears in my eyes longer. My eyes are back to normal, hardly ever sore or even tired feeling and I don't even need my glasses any more.

Ask your doc about plugs. One drawback is that mine keep falling out. However, my eyes remain ok even when they fall out. I just go back to the doc and they replace them. It's a pain free quick office procedure. Though I'm a bit sore the next day and take it easy when I have it done.

Hope that helps

I've got sjogren's too, and I get really dry, red eyes. It feels like my eyelids are really draaaaaaagging along my eyeballs When I was first diagnosed I had problems with dry eye and then my doctor prescribed something and it went away. BAH I wish I could remember what it was. poop, Im no help. Sorry! I hope you feel better soon.

I have "dry eye" as well (Sjogren's with the RA) and found relief for my rt. eye when the eye doc inserted punctal plug in a tear duct.  However, I still have dry eyes and occasionally use artificial tears.  My vision is affected as well....eyes tire easily and I have trouble reading.

Is it true that Restasis has a side effect of "dry eyes"?....doesn't that seem strange that it can cause what it is supposed to correct?  I also use Evoxac for my Sjogren's as it helps to hydrate my dry mouth.  Not sure if it does much for the eyes though.  It also increases my perspiration.  Before Evoxac I never ever sweated....which sounds good until you think how our ability to sweat cools us off.

Yep; I've got it too.

It's just recently been a problem for me and this week with out my meds it seems to be worse. Obviously caused by inflamation just as the doctor said.

Mine isn't as bad as yours sounds Karen, but it does affect my vision and can be rather painful at times.

I keep drops in my purse, on my desk, on my night stand...use them several times a day.

I dont get problems with my actual eye but on the insides of the edge of both eyes nearest to my nose I have two red marks. Not all the time but they come and go. My eyes themself are fine and don't seem to be dry. I am able to wear contacts 5 days of the week. Does anyone else have these little red marks?anti-inflammatory drops???  you remember the name?  did rheumy or MD prescribe.  don't know which dr to ask about this.

ME TOO!!!   I feel like all of you have been watching me, the more I read the more my problems all come together!

I've had dry eyes for a long time and didn't correlate it with my inflammation -DUH!My eye drops are called FML Liquifilm and they have fluorometholone in
them, which is a cortisol. I live in Australia though, so I'm not sure if they're
available everywhere. I'm only allowed to use them for a maximum of five
days at a time, and if I need them anymore frequently than once or twice a
month my doctor wants me to go see him. Otherwise I just use the artificial
tears drops, which are good, but not as fantastic as the FML (they sting a bit
to put in though!)

Does anyone else's eyes REALLY sting if they cry? Mine have a brief spurt of
pain, I just put it down to the dodgy eyes
