For APers: Probiotic Recommendations? | Arthritis Information

I'm wondering if APers can compare probiotics. I have been using Florastor sometimes mixed with Acidophilous Pearls. They both cost about a hit which is getting kind of expensive at 2 or 3 or 4 hits a day, but the cheaper stuff doesn't seem to do anything. (The problems with the cheaper brands is the vast majority of bacteria is killed by your stomach acid. Forastor is spores which will survive until your gut, and the Pearls are double enteric coated) Both of these probiotics are good but I'm not sure if they're providing the full range of benificial intestinal flora. What do you use/recommend? At first I used Theralac ordered online.  It was expensive  too and had to be kept refrigerated. Then on anoher site someone recommended Target's Origin brand called simply Acidophilus, so I tried it and it actually works better for me than the expensive one.  it is less than for 60 caps, sometimes it is even on sale.  I take it only once a day, about halfway between mino doses.  Hope this helps!  PatARGH! We don't have Target in Canada. Thanks for the advice, anyway. I'll
pick some up if I ever get an opportunity.Gimpy I order all of my supplements including Probiotics from Swansonvitamins.com.  Being one that has yeast problems with ABX I have had no problems taking their Shiff brand.  It is milk-free acidophilus, 100 1 billion CFU tabs for .99.  My blood work shows all vitamins and minerals to be in good shape and I check my PH occasionally which stays where it should be.Bonny, that's a great tip---thanks!

I was using the really expensive stuff from my AP doc (guess he has to make $ somewhere LOL) Ultra Flora Plus from I think metrogenics??? but Friend on the RB said Solaray at Whole Foods.  It was about for a big bottle.  But I just went to Whole Foods out here and the girl in that department swears by Jarro-dophilus with FOS - something like 3.4 billion buggers in a capsule.  I forget what she said about why its better.  And it was a bottle for 200 caps.

I don't know what to do - I know I have a yeast problem so I need to go full steam on the probiotics and do the diet to try and heal the gut.  But I like the prices you are quoting.  But...

What should I do?

Pip

Whew, okay Whole Foods we DO have.

I'm not sure Pip. I'm going to keep taking this expensive stuff for now but mix it up with the cheaper stuff and see how I do. All the probiotic products contain different "flora" and I think it's good to mix it up. I read on the RoadBack BB it is best to avoid brands with streptococcus thermopolus as it aggravates rheumatic disease.

Whew - at least that's not in the new bottle!
