Crummy subject, but it's been bothering me.  I want to know if I'm alone in this.

Lately, I've been very constipated.  Wondering if it's all the meds.  I should say that before meds, (we'll call it BM

So what do you think?  Anyone else like to give me your thoughts or experiences with this?

Most recommend drinking lots of water to avoid this problem.  None of my meds effect me that way tho.   Wish I could be more help!  :-(Sara, i have  experenced what you are going through. I found that taking magnesium pills helped me. i started out taking 3-4 50mg tabs at night and within a few days I was going regularly. It does take time to work but once you start you will become regular with continued use. Like with all herbs it may not work for you but i hope you will find something that will.

Good luck.. Tracy

Thanks, Tracy.  Been taking 800mg magnesium for awhile now, and it hasn't had an effect.  But I've been taking it in the morning.  Maybe I'll switch to nights.  Who knows?

Any other ideas?

Hmm, this happens to me when I take calcium. But it was BAD! So I had to stop for a bit. Also it could be any of your meds, it happens to me sometimes when I first start a med, then it goes away. I always have some sort of problematic BM, whether it be this one or the complete opposite. Sorry to be so vague, but Im sure you dont want to hear the details. lol. I hope you feel better soon.

Sara,

Calcium, Folic Acid and ALL pain medications will do this.  Have you tried a over the counter fiber helper?   Citucel or Milk of Mag. as a capsule out now.   You shouldn't go more than three days without going (per my Gastro).   It causes quite an emergency if you get blocked or rupture.   So be VERY careful in being sure that you go some how.   Talk with your RD or PCP regarding this.   Most people with RA and other disease often have IBS, or intestinal problems also.  You may want to check into those possibilities.

Keep us posted and try to get on something over the counter in the mean time.

*hugs*

Tried fiber thing for a month.  Nothing. Asked rheumy, and he just shrugged-like he thought no connection with meds.  I thought about IBS, but thought that involved cramps and pain, which I don't have.  Aren't pain and cramps involved with IBS?  How is it diagnosed?  Do you know?  Hoping it's not one of these things that can't be definitively diagnosed. I've been taking a regular laxative (correctol) once a week that clears me out, but don't like laxatives as I know the body can start to depend on them.  I guess I should start keeping track on the calendar...Try benefiber I use that it mixes well in a drink or sprinkle it on your food, when I had problems becasue of meds I would take this at least once aday 1 to 2tbs in a drink mixed well.  Another thing I found that  works is cashews or other nuts works like a charm.  Hope this helps.   Like the others said lots of water and try starting to eat  shredded wheat, more veggies, etc.  Try to build up your fiber intake. Oh another thing getting up and moving around go for a walk any exercise where you are up on your feet for awhile gravity does help  lololololololol

Meme is right water and roughage.  Apples are great for this(not juice) ....."an apple a day" this may have been what they were referring too

Anyway, may not work for all, but works well for us so I thought I'd mention it.

Don't try all of this great advice at once or you'll have a very different problem to report

Good Luck,

Thanks, ya'll.  I'll probably not make an announement when poop occurs.  Some newbie will probably happen on that announcement first, and run the other way...
