My husband has booked tickets for Michael Bolton concert in july and for UB40 in june.YAY!! Have really good seats in the disabled area.Just hope I stay awake long enoughHi Lisa, I AM JEALOUS!!!!!! Ok, here's one of my few "brushes with fame" stories. I got to meet Michael Bolton at a party here in Connecticut. He's a super nice guy - what you see on stage and TV is the real thing.
But here's my crazy story about the party. It's kind of long, so please bare with me. . .
Every year the gang from our community theatre has a wild two day party/event (not wild drinking, just wild, bizarre activities and fun). It is called the "Naked Barbie" party, because the homemade trophy taken home by the winner of the "athletic" events has a gold spray-painted Naked Barbie on the top of it. The event is held at the home of one of the theatre founders, Rick who lives on a lake.
Well Rick got a new neighbor on the lake - a couple moved into this big mansion across the lake. (By the way, Rick's house is just a little one-bedroom lake cottage. - None of us Naked Barbie folk have any money, LOL!).
Rick met the couple, struck up a friendship, told them all about our upcoming Naked Barbie party, and invitied them to come along. They decided they wanted to be a part of it - in a big way. So they rented a tent, valet parking attendants, caterers, and invited all of the Naked Barbie clan to a pre-event party at their house on Friday evening. We consisted of half of the crowd - the other half was the couple's entertainment friends from Connecticut and NY. Let's just say we were from two different worlds and the Naked Barbie folk were like the country bumpkins attending a fancy posh New Yorker's party. We turned up our noses at the liver pate', they turned up their noses at us.
Anyway, the funniest thing that happened to me was that in my stress about what to wear to such an event I tried on about 5 different outfits. I ended up wearing nice silky black slacks and a white ruffled chiffon blouse. Your basic black and white - classic right? Well apparently the parking valets and caterers also wore black and white - people thought I was there to work the party instead of attend it!
OMG, it was so funny - people trying to hand me their car keys, asking me to get them something, etc. But the absolute best was when we took a mini tour of the LR and DR of this mansion, and then I needed to use the bathroom. There were a couple of other guests in front of me waiting their turn to use the bathroom, so I was standing in line waiting also. The home owner walked by, saw me, and said, "You, come with me". Well now I'm curious, I thought this was a chance to see more of the house, like maybe her upstairs bathroom??
She took me through the kitchen, back through the bowels of the house, past the a room with about 4 washer/dryer combos, and dropped me off at this little tiny, bare, stripped-down bathroom - which was used for the servants!!!! I was giggling so hard I could barely pee!
I never did approach her to tell her who I was, because this was too funny to spoil.
The couple was Sheila Nevins, and her rich "investment banker from Wall Street" husband. Sheila is apparently a brillant woman and produces some of the best HBO documentaries, has won several emmys. But if you go visit her - don't wear basic black and white!
That was the one and only time Sheila ever wanted to mingle with us "little people". We didn't pass muster and she never attended the Naked Barbie events held at Rick house the next two days. Her hubby stopped by to see how things were going and put in an appearance. ) my 13 year old is the same, she has a very sunny nature. I am very blessed with my family thats why when i read about the husbands/ wives who dont support their partners when they get ill , I get so angry.Its the support and love that gets you through more than the meds. I would do the same for hubby without a second thought.Pin, Have fun at the show. M Bolton may get a little boring so take your nap before UB40
