Hi Sheila,

For your age, I understand an appropriate dosage for calcium (always combined with magnesium) is 1000 to 1500 mgs per day. Those around menopause should definitely take the higher dose.

If you ask 100 people which vitamins are best for inflammatory arthritis symptoms, you'd probably get 100 different responses. Although there does seem to be certain supplements that people swear by, for example, glucosamine/chondrotin. I'd say a multi-vitamin is always a good idea.

Similarly, I was first diagnosed with "connective tissue disease" (many conditions under this category), blood tests show me positive for Lupus, but I have very few characteristics. Even though I am presently RF (Rheumatoid Factor) negative, two rheumys dx me with RA.

If you are at all interested in what I take vitamin/supplement-wise (and I take no traditional drugs at this point, not even an aspirin):

Multi-vitamin - Extra Vitamin C - Extra Calcium/Mag - Fish Oil capsules - MSM - and soon to include B12. Of all of these, I believe the MSM is the most beneficial. I'm immensely thankful my doctor turned me onto this!    Best regards, Rana

I WOULD ASK YOUR RHEUMY AS SOME OTC MEDS  AND VITAMINS CANNOT BE TAKEN WITH RA MEDS.  GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!
