I did not realize a sharp knife HELPS!! | Arthritis Information

I knew my knives were dull and needed either replacing or sharpening. I love to cook but my hands have not been up to the cutting and chopping for the past few months. That means more Albertson's fried chicken...bummer, huh?

Seriously I have been having an impossible time cutting meat & veggies for my stir-fry. So I went shopping for a knife sharpener. I was SHOCKED at the cost of them. But I found one from Presto, of all companies. But it's great. Found it on Amazon for under and now all my fancy chef knives are sharp again and my hands are MUCH happier to make dinner again.

I really did not think it was so important to us with RA to keep sharp knives. Now I realize how they help reduce the actual effort we need to make to prepare food.

Anyway, just wanted to pass along this epiphany in case someone else might get some relief.
ThanksI think good kitchen utensils are essential for us. I know I keep my knives
sharp for my wrists. I am getting to the point where I can't open jars very
good. My husband has to do it. I was going to buy one of those jar opening
machines but didn't know if they worked. Has anyone tried them? I have a jar opener.it is fixed to the underside of my kitchen cupboard, you put the jar into it and turn the jar a half turn and hey presto.the only thing is i cant hold the jar and it sometimes ends up on the floor. My brother-in-law, who is a good cook, gave me a knife for Christmas many years ago. It was the only thing he gave me in the gift exchange and I kinda went wtf is this? But it is the most wonderful, most expensive knife I have ever had. There is nothing like a good knife. It holds an edge for a long time, sharpens easily with a few stokes on a little hand held sharpener my DH got me. One good knife in your kitchen is essential, occasionally I'll thirst over a whole collection in the Williams Sonoma catalog, which I could never afford, and then go, oh well, at least I have my one good knife.Oh, I love Williams Sonoma. We don't have one here but I try to visit one
every time I travel and always save room in my luggage for some little tool
from there. I got one of their herb grinders last time. They are really nice.

Joanne's - a craft/fabric store, routinely has a guy that comes to sharpen people's knives and scissors. The store advertises well ahead of time when he is coming. I have heard great things about his work.

You guys are so lucky!!  I am not allowed anything sharper than a bowling ball lol.  When my sewing machine broke recently, I took it in to be fixed and then after I got the estimate to fix it was trying to decide if I should just get a new one and the guy told me if I bought a new one from him he would sharpen all my scissors for the rest of my life, it's a deal he offers everyone. I said ALL MY SCISSORS?? He said yea as long as I didn't bring in too many at once, one woman brought in 20!! I didn't buy my new machine from him, but I did have him fix my old one, I should have asked him if the scissors sharpening went with repairs too. Dang, all my scissors, sharp, it would be heaven.I love my chef's knives.  I worked as a cook at a child care centre for a few years and one year I treated myself to 3 beautiful German chef's knives.  I got them because I could claim them on my income tax because they were work related tools.  They cost about 0.  If they are kept sharp it means they slide through things like butter and there is VERY little pressure on my wrist, they glide through everything and don't slip off and cut your fingers.
