Pain patch - help please. | Arthritis Information

Hi guys, I wonder if any of you have a solution to keeping the pain patches on, they keep coming off of me by about the 2nd or 3rd day of 7 day patch.  Unfortunately I am allergic to most sticky tapes to keep it on, at present I am using an elastic bandage but that is making me really itchy too, also the Norspan is starting to cause a rash where the medication is in contact witht he skin, any ideas?  My GP is on hols.  Many thanks Janie. PS  I don't want to stop this one s it really does work.  I tried it once before and the Doc took me off of it for the above reasons.

My mother is on a patch for pain, I will have to see which one it is. She is doing well on it but it causes major constipation. I know for my estrogen patch, they sometimes would not stick especially when it is really humid outside or if I am sweating from doing yard work.I would take it off then use a hair dryer on it and then put it back on. I do know that you cannot place them on right after a shower. Perhaps you just got a bad batch of "sticky" that has happened to me a few times.

Recently I had tried a generic patch for the estrogen and I had a site reaction like you were describing with your pain patch  so I switched back to the other patch.

Prob not the patch for you if you are having a site reaction. If you must use it until you can see your Dr.,try  the hair dryer method. Sounds silly but it does work.

I only use the lidocane patches and you just keep those on for 12 hours and then off for 12 hours. I do have to use tape though as they don't stay down on all the edges.

I tried the estrogen patches a couple of years back myself and I couldn't get those to stay on for the life of me.....got fed up with those and switched to pills. Like that way better!

Glad these are helping Janie. That's great news!

I use the fentanyl pain patch, but I've never had any problems with them sticking. Is there another doctor where your doctor is that you could talk with?  Or maybe you could ask your doctors nurse?

I have just started using the fentanyl patch and I was having trouble with it staying on.  My rd suggested using paper tape in the bandaid section of the store you shop at.  It works for me.  I do have to change the paper tape after a shower or bath but other than that it works great.

I used fentanyl patches a couple of years ago. It seems to me that there is a large patch-like bandaie type of thing that is the same size that you can put right over it, and it holds on very well.

I really didn't have much problem keeping them on.

Good Luck keeping them on. Also make sure you are putting them in a place where you have no hair. It really won't stick to "hairy" places. ( I don't mean to imply that you are hairy

Like Jode said, you might just have gotten a bad batch.

Hope you find something that helps. Are they helping your pain, or is it hard to tell, since they aren't sticking well?

Hugs,

Nini

Janie, I just re-read your post. I don't know of any patch that is supposed to be on for 7 days. What is it you are using? Might be something we don't have in the States.Try placing the patch on an area of your body that does not have a lot of
oiliness. Before placing the patch, rub the area with alcohol to defat the
area. There are some hypoallegenic tapes on the market. They are called
Mefix or Hypofix here in the states so I'm not sure what they would be called
there. They are cloth and stick over patches very well.
Janie, I just re-read your post. I don't know of any patch that is supposed to be on for 7 days. What is it you are using? Might be something we don't have in the States.
The pain patch I am using is called NORSPAN, also known as BUPRENORPHINE, it is available in 5mg, 10,mg and 20mg.  It works really well.  Thanks from Janie.
