Chronic Diarrhea... | Arthritis Information

Hi There, I haven't posted in a while..have had somethings going on and just haven't taken the time to post, but I read the posts almost everyday.

I was wondering do any of you have problems with diarrhea? Mine stated about 6 weeks ago and I may go 3-4 times a day then none at all the next day.....but most days I feel quesy and just *not right. I am on MTX, folic acid, mobic and prednisone. I have been on these meds for years and haven't had any problems at all with them, but I did have my gallbladder removed a year ago. Any thoughts on the matter!??

Thanks so much!

Delena
Well............it could be the mobic, or the pred...are you on MTX pills? It could be that too. It sounds like your tum tum is finally tired of SOMETHING..........I'd call your doc and let them know. With all that you're on, I'm thinking the best bet is to start with the meds being the cause, it's just the most likely. HI Delena, I too have chronic diareah. Notalways , but very often, I don't know if it is the RA or the Plaquenil,(I do not take MTX or Pred). I worry that our autoimmune and inflamitory condition could be causing inflamitory bowel disease of some nature! I have a R.D. appt. Friday, I plan to ask. I know I haven't offered much insight, but you are not alone anyway!
Feel Well.Jena,

At least I am not alone. I too have had chronic diarrhea for probably about a year.   Not every single day, but there are enough bouts per week to be considered chronic....says my rheumy.   He said it is very likely to develop crohn's disease/ulcerative colitis from the chronic inflammation.    It does make sense to me when I thought about it.....inflammation can occur anywhere in the body.....
i hope you are feeling better.........
doesn't folic acid give you diarrhea?Sometimes the Plaquenil makes me that way...maybe it's your MTX. You do need to call your dr. Make sure you are getting plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. I hope you feel better soon. Thanks, I have been on MTX for 6 years and it has never done it before. Was thinking maybe I have IBS or something like that, folic acid has never done it either.
Elaine, did your rheumy tell you what you could do about the diarrhea??

Just wondering. I lost my medical coverage and can't see a rheumy, so my GP and I are dealing with my RA. So, I am going to really rely on the advice of you all here to help me. This week hasn't been bad..only had diarrhea one day.

Church-Mouse,

Have you tried eating coconut daily?  Sometimes that helps with diarrhea.

PJ

Florastor helps with diarrhea but it's not cheap. Or try eating oatmeal for
breakfast every day.I read an article about taking 1/2-1 calcium carbonate tablet before, during or after each meal for diarrhea, along with fiber.....it seems to be helping...both act as sponge and soak up excess bile fluid.

thanks for all the info!!

Delena

I have suffered with bouts of diarrhea for many years... Taking in more fiber like metamusal(sp?) usually calms things right down.

This is something that both RA and many drugs, especially nsaids cause in me.

Because it is new in you, please check with your doc.

It could be so many things. Meds, IBS, Chrons, Ulcerative colitis, nerves,
food, giardia, the list is endless. sounds like if it has been going on for
long enough to get it checked. Request a colonoscopy and endoscopy.
Keep us posted.
