Do you feel "sick" when you flare? | Arthritis Information

Even after getting the shot of 80mg prednisone, a tordal shot and a shot of anti-nausea on Saturday, I still feel awful.  I took 80mg prednisone Sunday, 60 Monday, 50 Tuesday, 40 Wednesday and 30 today.  I was on a maintenance dose of 3.5.  I also just did my weekly humira shot.

My neck has never flared like this, I still can't move my head very far.  My hips and legs are on fire, it literally feels like my bones are burning on the inside.  I am nauseous, to the point of vomiting several times a day, major headache, diarrhea, just plain feel sick.

I am actually heading over to my chiropractor in about 10 minutes to have him take some x-rays of my neck to see if there are any changes there since my rheumy seems unconcerned.  I really can't imagine letting him adjust me at all since the pain in my neck is fastly approaching a 9 on the 10 scale but I want to know if there are any changes.

I just don't understand why I feel so SICK.  I get the joint pain and swelling and usual suspects but why this extreme nausea and this burning feel is new as well.  I know I have neuropathy but this feels different.

Anyone have any idea's?  Well, I am off to the chiro, will let you know if I find out anything.
I've never felt quite as bad as you're describing Sweetie. Please let us know what they say when you get back....it sounds horrible! I'm surprise there hasn't been any improvement by now.

I have been there Michele and know exactly how you feel.  I wish I had the answers for you I really do.  But I don't.  I'm so stumped on why you are just not getting any better.  I hope and pray allt he time that you do get better and you are in my thoughts a whole lot.

Please let us know what the chiro says.  (((HUGS)))

My neck flared around 4-5 days ago and it was about a 8 out of 10. Where does yours hurt?

I had a disc blow out (C7) 7mm, April 2006. Had to have major neck surgery. After that, I would feel like my head was being shoved down my neck. Also, the muscles down the sides of my neck hurting extremely bad. Pulling and pulling!

Is it like that?
hI , is it the weather? My neck's been doing the grinding, cracking, creaking lately and thought it was 'our' foggy west coast weather? Hummm. SarahNope, not grinding or popping, just stuck.  Its so stiff and visually swollen, I honestly can not look over my shoulder.  The chiro just took some x-rays and doesn't see any obvious fractures but the top three vertebra's were out.

He did a heat scan thing as well and their is a huge temperature change from say, mid back to neck.  The pain is in the hallow at the very top of your spine, right where your head attaches.

He used the infant auto adjuster and got them realigned but is also amazed at the amount of swelling I have, especially after the high burst of steroids .I have also been using an ice bag for hours a day on my neck, even brought it to the office and got ice from the restaurant next door.

He wants me to stop back in tomorrow am to see if the adjust holds.  Right now, I just really want to barf and go to bed.  I went home early at 3 yesterday and trying to hold out for a few more hours today before going home as my boss is getting really upset with me.  I have doubled up on my pain pills and its just not getting any better at all.

I spoke with the nurse at the pain clinic yesterday and the doc upped my dose of my water pill, thinking maybe I am retaining fluid but no other suggestions at the moment.
Before  I was on my meds, I would get sick as in a fever and achy all over ( Like Flu) but after I got on my meds my flares are just the stiffness and often my hands are useless.
But if you mean sick with fever or nausea . Not anymore.
Michele- i have been sick since i had a prednisolone injection two weeks ago, if i hadnt been sterilized i would have said i had morning sickness.I have ached and have been stiff and sore too.I thought the injections were supposed to make you better

and Pin, I hope you are getting better as well.

Michele, you sound like you are in absolute misery. Is there any way you can take medical leave? Going to work in the condition you are in must be awful, and to have your boss getting irritated isn't helping. Please rest up when you can and know that we are all praying for you.It sounds to me like you have a bad case of flu on top of RA. I sure hope you feel better soon.Unfortunately, there is no one else to work besides me, I work for a small optometry office.  However, it is a slower time right now so I am actually going to head out now.  I do feel truly miserable.  I thought this high burst of steroids would help but man, its not touching it.  I do have a slight fever, it was 99.2 at the chiro this morning but I really think its "just" a flare although I do ache all over like the flu, who the heck knows at this point?!  I need this to end soon though.

Flares are NOT fun.  I never experienced the sickness you are having, but several years ago, I went through a flare that made my body feel hot and feverish all over, though my temperature was normal.  Also was so totally exhausted after work one day, I couldn't even stay awake long enough to eat dinner, and fell asleep over the soup
