My daughters RF came back negative (thank you) so the doctor sent her to
occupational therapy. I wanted to share the treatment they did. I have
never heard of it and maybe some one here has done this but it is where
they use some sort of ultrasonic waves(or maybe it is electical?) to drive
Decadron into her hand to
decrease the swelling and pain. I thought it was interesting. Although I
don't like the thought of her taking a steroid, it is the only way she can use
her hand right right now.lorster39233.451412037

You of all people should know that having a negative rheumatoid factor is not a conclusive no for any inflammatory arthritis.  Is her hand/wrist her only problem?

My sister is having that treatment right now for her elbow tendonitis.  The therapists say if there is no sign of imporvement in 4 treatments its not likely to work.  The treatment is just a way to get the steroid to the soft tissue not unlike using an injection to get the cortisone into a joint space

I don't use a med with it but do have an ultrasonic wave machine at home.  It is a dream for muscles and tendons.  It uses sound waves to penetrate very deep heat or in your daughter's case a med.

I am happy to hear of the negative test.

Well, I did one session of that and they told me I had to come back 5 or 6 more times in a 2 week span. I told them at copay per session, they can kiss it. It can't be that good. And I don't have that kind of money. Right now, I'm using the splints at night.I have had us therapy before but never with steroids?  I am currently getting sts treatments, they are electrical impulses that are supposed to reset your sympathetic nervous system.

I am glad they don't believe its ra but tendinitis can still really hurt, hope she feels better soon.

They think it is tendonitis because it is not painful in the morning but
becomes increasingly so as the day wears on and she uses it more. She is
also getting a splint. Lorster, I have to ask you this. Why are your messages so spaced out?
You may have answered this before and I missed it.  I am really curious.
However, I want you to know that I still enjoy reading your messages.  Nurses rock!
