Allergy to pain patch? Help please | Arthritis Information

Hi guys, hope you all had a nice weekend and that it wasn't too painful!  I am on currently a 20mg buprenorphine pain patch, have been using it for 4 weeks and slowly increased from 10mg.  I now have been getting a rash, extremely itchy under the medicine part of the patch, I know this means I have an allergy but can it do anything else to me inside if my skin is experiencing problems, my GP is away and I am not sure if I should worry or not.  I just keep moving it at present, and the bad part of the skin eases almost immediately, any ideas?  Cheers, Janie.

Safety issues

Buprenorphine produces typical opioid adverse effects (such as constipation, headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness). Local irritation may occur at the application site.

Buprenorphine has a long half-life, so plasma concentrations fall slowly after the patch is removed. Another opioid should not be started within 24 hours of removing a patch.8

I found this i hope it is of some help

Thanks pincushion, that sure was quick, Janie. I experienced a reaction like that when I used the Birth Control patches... my dr. said it was common and to just put it in a different spot every time I change it... but it would still drive me nuts... I would scatch it off or pull it off in my sleep... Which is y I got pg on the patch..lol!

I also get itchy at the pain patch site, but nothing that's bothersome.

HI guys, just updating you on the pain patch, had to go to GP today as the itching became so intense and I had only moved the patch to another area last night, the same thing happened the first time around with the patch but we were so desperate to try something else we gave it another go, anyway locum GP has taken me off of it and put me on Oxynorm 10mg 4 x day, hope I am not allergic to it but I think it is the same as Endone, so I should be ok, thanks for listening, love Janie.
