Is hot flashes and night sweats common with RA? I wake up soaked sometimes and during the day I will just burst into a sweat at any given moment...however if I get upset its way worse.
Linda
I have experienced night sweats with RA when it was not under control.

But the hot flashes during the day doesn't sound right. Could you be menopausal?

Hi Jo-Jo. yes, I have exactly the same thing. The ones during the day make me clammy all over. Even my forearms get damp!

I haven't had "hot flashes" for a couple of years. That is past for me, and they feel different than menapausal flashes, too. Those, for me, seemed to be in my neck/chest and head. My hair would get soaked.

These are different. They effect my whole body. I was wondering about it being RA, too. I'm going to do a web search and see if I can find a connection. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

It seems like someone said the same thing on this forum a while back but I can't remember what exactly was said.

There have been times that I get the sweats from my mtx.  It doesn't happen all of the time tho.  And it is just like my head that sweats.

I have done the menopause thing surgically so that can't be a factor for me.

I also have night sweats, but at my age, it could also be menopause.I definitely get night sweats during flares.  Not menopause for me -- I'm only 38 and had 3 pregnancies during my initial flare.  In fact, thought the pregnancies caused the night sweats, only to have the sweats after the pregnancies too. I had "hot flashes" day and night when I was on MTX. I have been off of it for a year and they hot flashes vanished. My period came back as well. I have read that the MTX brings on menopause.RA itself causes night sweats. Alot of the meds I take also cause excesive sweating. Cymbalta is one. I can break out in a sweat when it's 30 degrees out and everyone is freezing but me. crazy stuffWow...me too ladies! I get tickled sometimes when we get to discussing how bad we feel, etc...Have any of you seen the "Penelope" character on Saturday Night Live? Oh my goodness! It is just so funny to me, warped mind ya, but none the less, it's too funny to me! Here is a link that has 2 skits of "Penelope." Well, I did have a partial hysterectomy last year... but I still have 1 ovary and 1 tube...Lord, I hope this aint any kind of early menopause thing, I dunno If I could deal with that too... they told me that keepin that one ovary should supply me with plenty of hormones...Im 33 so...man who knows... Im expecting a tree to fall on top of me any day...lol Hi, I was taking 15mgs of prednisone at one point and when I'd take them at night I would have sweating. I 've forgotten what meds you take? SarahThe sweating has been goin on for like 2 years... I wasnt taking anything back then and now i only take celbrex and now the sulfer medicine that made me sick...

Hi,

I am new to this board and was interested in the post on sweating.  I have RA but haven't taken any medications yet so, in my case at least, it can't be the medication.  It also can't be menopause as I am way past this, being almost 62.

I believe it's the RA.  My thermostat is really not like any others that I know of. MY face and forearms and my neck get flushed and red when I am in the heat and heat affects me more than it does the average person.

Hope this info helps.
