I am headed off to the rheumy tomorrow afternoon for my follow up from that nasty flare almost 6 weeks ago. Here's my problem. I am really ready to get off the pred. I am doing very well at the 5mg dose I am on and just really feel that my meds do not need to be supplemented with it any longer. However, the weather up here is just cruddy. Been raining and storming since Thursday. So of course I am stiff, swollen, fatigued, and can hardly move. And of course, more rain tomorrow with it ending on Wednesday. OF COURSE!!!! I do just fine when the weather is nice. How can I convince him to take me off the pred when I am in there with swollen hands, wrists, knee, and feet??? Is it reasonable to tell him I will leave some pred hanging around for bad weather? I am already going to ask to up my mtx dose just a little bit to compensate for being off the pred. Hi GrammaS,
What mix of meds are you on? Only MTX or other DMARDS or biologics? If you're only on MTX and pred, maybe you can get better control from more MTX or another drug and then get to drop the pred?

Hi Grams, Do you have a good relationship with your rheumy? If so, just ask about keeping some around for bad weather. I would explain just the way you did here; that you are doing well unless the weather is bad/wet and you are ready to get off it. Of course, your rheumy may decide that you are not over the flare.

Gramma..do you have a pill splitter?? When I wean myself off of pred after a flare I go down to 5 mg for a few days then 2.5 mg then I cut in quarters. It seems to help me...

My husband splits my pills for me lol.
I am on humira every other week along with my mtx.
LOL. Don't worry I am going to sleep tonight. This isn't like when it was Danielle's appointment lol.
I have a great relationship with my rheumy and he really does listen to me so I am hoping that he will with this pred thing. My appointment is in the afternoon and I will post when I get home.

Liz- I hope all goes well for you at the docs.I cant advise on the pred as i dont take it but behave yourself and do what the doc tells you
