Hey all.  Am having a blast in the big apple.  Wanted to share that we went the the Body exhibition today.  Was awesome!!  I have never seen anything like it.  This is a heck of a city.  I hope everyone is having a great week.Lori, have been thinking about you and wondering where you were.  Am glad you loved NYC.  It's a non stop merry go round ride.  Did you have that slice of pizza for me?  LindyHa! Well I'm in Northern Jersey (farm country) and it's supposed to be hot hot hot Friday. Have you had a ride on the subway yet? Also, you must have at least one New York bagel before you leave. Make sure you eat some NY Pizza. I love it when I visit Family in Florida and they say things like NY style Pizza or Bagels.....Not even close What I do not understand is why 60 or 70 cop cars come screatching around this city?  All in a row.  Does it actually take that many cops to respond to an emergency?  This happened three times yesterday.  Anyone know why they do this?

Lori, have you seen any shows yet?  I would love to hear your reviews.  Here's a tip about getting tix - if you are told that a show is sold out, show up at the ticket office early in the morning when they are opening up, and ask if they have any available seats for today's performance.  Sometimes there are single seats available close together.  My hubby and I got to see Harvey Feirstein in Hairspray that way, when it was supposed to be impossible to get tickets.

Also, of course, there are the two TKTS ticket tents where they have reduced price tickets available for a wide variety of shows.  The one in Times Square usually has a line around the block very early, but if you go to the South Street Seaport you'll have fewer people to compete with for tickets.  You must pay by cash, but usually the savings is at least 50%, sometimes 75% off the regular box office price.

If you're into that kind of thing, the Stardust Diner in Times Square can be a lot of fun.  It's all 50's style, and the waiters and waitresses sing for you!  They are all Broadway wannabees, and they are very talented, plus it's just fun getting a song with your coffee and eggs!

Have a great time - the weather is perfect today!

Hillhoney39239.3261805556Lorster, the cop cars are sometimes security detail if dignitaries are in town, particularly for the United Nations. A lot of times they will stop regular car traffic so that these people can get around without delay - which i guess could make them targets. Ahhhhhh, I'm SO jealous! NYC is SO fun!!

Enjoy yourself! You MUST go hit up Century 21....fantastic clothing & etc deals!!!!!!!!
Policing The Big Apple is not easy. Stuff happens all the time here. There is no way to say what they were up too. Was it the day the guy was on the George Washington bridge ready to jump?? Hey thanks all.  gonna check out that diner today.  that will be so great.  we are three blocks from times square so everything is within walking distance.  we went to a jon stewart show yesterday, that was great.  we saw legally blond on broadway last night.  was not my first choice but i am here with 5 other people so gary and i are going to try to see beauty and the beast as it permanently closes on july 29th.  the police thing happened tuesday.  i had not heard of anyone jumping off the washington bidge but then, it is hard to watch any news right now, lol.  I'll check in later.  hope everyone is having a good week, painfree.  Hey Lorster, if you have time, it's worth taking a stroll down Mulberry Street in Little Italy. Sitting outside, having pasta, some red wine (if not on mtx!), it's an event. How long are you in NY?

I am going to NYC in July with my husband and 15 yr old son and 18 yr old daughter.  It is my daughters HS graduation present. We are going to a nY Yankees game on the 4th of July with seats about 15 rows back behind home plate and then on the 5th we are going to the Broadway Show "Drowsy Chaperone".  I can't wait...We have never been there before.  Not sure where to begin so we are thinking about the night "boat tour" that last about 2 hrs...suppose to go around to the sights around the harbor.  Any other ideas for neat things to do?  My daughter wants to make sure she gets a hot dog from one of the hot dog vendors on the street

You made a great choice with Drowsy Chaperone.  I have heard great things about it and it is a true old fashioned Broadway musical!  By the way, if you hang around the backstage door, and you are willing to wait long enough, the stars will usually come out and sign autographs and talk with you.  It's kinda a Broadway tradition, but it does take them awhile to get out of their costumes and make-up, so you have to be patient.

Have an awesome time.  This will be a wonderful present for your daughter.  By the way, congratulations on her graduation!

To New Yorkers, those hot dogs are called "dirty water dogs" - eat at your own risk! I grew up in NY, moved to NJ about 15 years ago. Hmmm, Kskrause, you should definitely try to get to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Little Italy (lower tip of Manhattan), the South Street SEaport is ok, Chinatown is VERY dirty and smells awful in the heat, Central Park is great - stop at a deli and get some sandwiches and eat in the park and people watch, walking through the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria - also great for people watching, Rockefeller Center   You can just about walk everywhere excepet for a couple places. One neighborhood leads into another great but very different neighborhood. I think if I were going to NY and had never been there, I'd first rent a classic movie that was filmed in NY and then I'd want to go see all the touristy sights in person! Will you be staying at a hotel in Manhattan? Hey thanks guys, you are giving me some great ideas.  Ok, here is what NOT to do.  DO NOT go to Coney Island.  We went yesterday, thought it would be a nice family type place.  It is filthy and ridden with gangs from the city. There was a gang fight on the beach which the cops were called in to settle. We got on the subway back to Manhatten and it was absolutely full of teens that were fighting, cussing and making the ride completely unbearable.  I would not go there again and if I had known this prior, would not have made the trip.  Gonna go to Mulberry St and eat dinner tonight, thanks for that suggeestion.  Will check in later.  Hugggs.I LOVE NYC      went there for 50th anniversary in 2004, looking forward to going back asap..love the people, way of life, broadway, our accommodations at comfort inn manhattan great, staff there at check in greet you when u get back from sightseeing like you were coming home.  we felt very secure in NYC at that time, orange alert on as well.  Especially enjoyed the tour bus, bought a ticket for 2 days, excellent, you could get on and off all along the route,,,covered everything from ground zero to harlem, commentaries very informative....

I'd go back to-morrow   rose from Canada

Lori, We are wanting to visit the restaurant "Serendipity" from the movie.. Have you been there yet? Have you heard any reviews on the hot chocolate dessert?  We will be staying at the Embassy Suites in South Manhattan..Have you made it down there yet? If so, is it safe? Karen

kskrause2139241.8298032407kskrause21. If your a baseball fan go see the Mets. Yankees stink this year If I were in new York right now I would go see the stage production of Grey Gardens because I LOVE the movie SOOOOOOOOOOO much! 6t5frlane, I respectfully disagree! I was at the Yankee game yesterday - saw two A-rod homeruns! It was great. Worst part is it takes 1 solid hour to get out of the parking garage! Lorster, let me know what you thought of mUlberry street.kskrause, I believe your hotel is in a good spot. It's lower Manhattan, close to the seaport, statue of liberty - which you may be able to see from your hotel window. Little Italy and Chinatown are also in the vicinity. I do recommend going to the Central Park Zoo and that area. I grew up in NY and it's always amazed me that in the vast craziness of the city, there is this zoo and parks and trees and lawns, and baseball fields, etc. Hey Lori, Any good sightseeing tips for my family next month?  We have NYY tickets on the 4th. Did you hear of any happenings during the evening of the 4th?
