Mayo or Cleveland Clinic? | Arthritis Information

Anyone have any experience with either one?

Laker

Hi Laker,

Yes, I have had experience with the Cleveland Clinic. I can't say enough good things about it from the minute the staff escorted me to my 'desk' to the end of the day when I was escorted to my 'car' (which was the van that took me from the hotel.)

The entire facility is amazing and clean and friendly and competent and inspiring and everyone smiles at you, no barking! LOL

Upon my return home I received a survey asking all kinds of questions.  The end of the survey asked you to write how CC could make the experience better.  I entered what had been my experience i.e, pushed me in a wheelchair from here to there, served excellent lunch, and on and on. At the end I added, tongue in cheek, "Well, guess it could have been better had Trump delivered me in his helicopter." I mean, after being treated so well they ask if they can do more?

They have come by their reputation honestly and it's well deserved.  It's a place that makes you feel hopeful the minute you enter.

Oh, by the way, I called there and have an appointment with a rheumatologist (just for a second opinion) at the end of July. No referral is necessary if one's insurance doesn't require it. If you go let me know and I will give you the name of the hotel where I stayed.  Clean, comfortable, a few blocks from CC main campus, .00 a night for patients and she puts them all on the fifth floor, the patient floor, so that it's quiet. Hope this helps. D

Danielle,

Thanks for the info. My rheum said Cleveland is a good place because they see a lot of people for vasculitis, but Mayo is good because they check everything and send you home with a report for your dr. It's up to me where I go. Did they do a general exam to diagnose you when you went? Or did you see a specialist there because they already knew what was wrong? Did you get a report to take back to your dr? Hope you don't mind all  the questions.

Thanks!

Laker

Hi Laker,

I saw a specialist with whom I had an appointment as I knew what was wrong, had been diagnosed and required (for my own edification) a second opinion, which I got and which proved that the first place (small, local hospital) was wrong.  I knew it too!

They were thorough within their specialty, and, as I required no other exams, non were  given.

I will PM you with more info as I don't want to post a really long post here.  Thanks, Danielle

Sorry Laker, I forgot. I did get an excellent report sent to me and one to my primary physician.  I have PM'd you the information you asked about.  Danielle
