Do these symptoms sound familiar? | Arthritis Information

I have Polymyalgia Rhematica and I am experiencing excrutiating pain in my lower back and in my thighs when I stand for longer than 5 seconds. When I sit I feel better. Does this sound like your symptoms?

The pain in the lower back sounds like my back.  I had pain in my knees so bad I couldn't get up from a chair or roll over in bed.

I think PMR locates itself in different areas for each of us.   When I was on prednisone, I would break out in a sweat when I stood in one spot for more than five minutes.  I had to keep moving.  I was fine sitting down.

Are you on any medication?   Mary

Yes Mary, I am on Prednisone and Arava for my RA. This helps too with my PMR. I was told by my Neurologist that this must be my back. But after reading more about PMR and talking to those who have it, it seems it does manifest itself in the lower back, hips and thighs. Just where I have the pain. So I am seeing my Rheumatologist on Monday. Thanks for letting me know your background. I too get so much pain when standing for more than 5 seconds and am fine when I sit down. Thanks again and hope you are having a good day!

I had pain in my lower back as well. Getting up from a chair was a nightmare.  Getting in and out of the car was miserable.  I'd have to lift my legs into the car with my arms that did not want to move. Legs feel like lead weights when trying to go up stairs.

When I was driving, my hands would go numb.  I'm very limited to the medications I can take because of a now resolved renal failure.  I'm limited to Tylenol Arthritis formula and Ultram.  Advil and all the other aides are forbidden.

I also take Medrol 4 mg twice a day which has helped alot.  I did well on three doses a day, but my doctor believes in tapering down after two months.  I'll be staying at this dose, because anything lower and I am miserable.  Since I've only been diagnosed since February, I'm into doing whatever it takes to be comfortable. Within reason of course.

I also have lower back pain, and leg pain, my pmr seems to have settled in the lower half of my body, sometimes shoulders but allways in the hip and leg area and it seems never to go away, even the pred does not help

Am on 25 mg of pred and methotrexate take darvocet for the pain and still do not feel well

I am all puffy from the high dose of pred, look like a different person, I look in the mirror and say who the heck are you?

Having a lot of difficulty walking, very unsteady, walk like i am 90 years old.
