HI all, how long does it take for Mobic to kick in? I have been taking 15mg for 1 week, not noticed much difference. Infact, my elbows hurt more than usual. However it has gotten very hot and humid here, but I am in AC most of the time. Weird. Also, I have been thinking, how can my R.D. tell the difference between RA joint damage and OA, he tells me I have OA in hip and knee, how does it appear differently on the X ray, anyone?

I have a friend on mobic and it took about a month for her to notice any difference.  Please keep in mind that we are all individual and meds effect us individually.  A week really isn't a lot of time to give something a chance to work.  Even the heavy duty RA meds take longer than a week to kick in and see results from.

The difference between OA and RA is that OA shows as "wear and tear" damage on an xray.  Much different from joint loss and damage from RA.

Hope that helped!!

Yes, it took around a month for it to kick in for me too, but once it finally did kick in, I had to stop taking it because everytime I would take it, my stomach would feel like ate fire! And I have a stomach that does not get bothered by stuff, my  mom calls it cast-iron tummy LOL.  I did not have the feeling like a ate fire, until around the same time I noticed it was working for the ol' RA. And I was only taking 7.5mg a day not the whole 15.

Hope it helps ya, I know it did me until.... If Iwould you I would also take something along with the Mobic to help keep it from hurting your tummy.

Gook Luck!

Oh oh oh!! Was that friend me? *grin* Yeah, it took almost a month for it to kick in for me too. After two weeks, I had on and off days...sometimes I was better, and sometimes I wasn't. Then, after 3-4 weeks, I was better all the time. Hang in there, give it a chance. But do watch out for the tummy problems. I did alright for a while, but now it tears me up. Good luck! It took about a month or so for the mobic to kick in..taking only 7.5 . I had to take Priosec OTC at the same time I took the mobic because of stomach problems. But now I have been using it for 5 months or so I don't need the Prilosec OTC anymore.  I like the Daypro better but it was toooo hard for my stomach to handle even with the Prilosec. Good luck.

I have OA & RA. The OA has done much more damage to me than RA, so far. My spine is severely damaged by OA among other problems. With OA, the discs or cartiledge is slowly destroyed. (Hopefully, it is slowly.) I have early onset, severe OA pretty much throughout my body. Spine has been fused at L4-S1 levels, and recently had joint replacement in the thumb joint, at the wrist level. Once the cartiledge is gone, the bones just rub against each other causing rough edges, and bone spurs (osteophytes).

The damage to my joints has also caused nerve damage, caused by the rough edges of joints and osteophytes. I do have a very severe case of OA, but basically that is what happens. And it can happen at any joint in your body. I even have it in my jaw. However, a lot of people will get it in 1 or 2 joints, not  all joints.

RA, as has been explained to my, eats away the synovial lining of the joints. And erodes the edges of the joints. It is USUALLY found in the hands/fingers first, and usually bilateral. It is an auto-immune disease, meaning that your body's immune system is seeing your own body cells as foreign or invading cells, like when you have an infection, for example. Your immune system turns against your own body. With RA, however, it sometimes doesn't stop at the joints. In very severe cases, RA can start attacking some of the internal organs, like lungs, heart, etc.

Auto-immune diseases can actually attack almost any part of your body. Blood, muscle, bones, skin, etc. I'm really not trying to scare you. RA doesn't always get real bad. But you probably will have to alter your lifestyle in some way. Even if it is just that you get more fatigued than usual.

Apparently, the difference in an x-ray is obvious to someone who knows what to look for (like your reumatologist).

The weather really affects my bones. And AC definitely makes me hurt! I have been taking Mobic for about a year, now. My doc says I need something for inflammation. With all the other meds, I honestly don't know if it helps or not. If nothing else, it's supposed to help keep inflammation factors down.(although mine are still high)

I hope I haven't put you to sleep, with this long post

I hope the mobic helps you. Keep us posted, okay?

Gentle hugs,

Nini

Nini39243.8011921296I've been on Mobic for several years and it does help me with the inflammation. I am on a lot of things for pain, but I still feel that I need the Mobic because it works on reducing inflammation and my other meds don't.

The reason so many of us are cursed with both RA and OA is that RA breaks down the bone, setting it up for OA to occur. I too have it in several places, especially my knees. It also causes me a lot of problems.

Deanna, I am so glad to see a post from you!!

I have really missed you and your sweet wisdom. Believe it or not I was thinking of you as I wrote my last post.

I hope you are okay! I think of you often. You have always been so kind to everyone . If you ever need to talk, please feel free to pm me.

Hugs,

Nini

PS I can't believe I spelled "rheumatologist" wrong!

Thanks Nini! I have tried many anti-inflammatory drugs in the past and they all seem to really tear up my tummy, is this one any easier on tummy?  I tried bextra (since been removed from the market), indomethician (sp?) all the otc ones, even the injection form of tordal is hard on my tummy and I do take previcid daily.  What do you guys consider the best anti inflammatory thats the easiest on tummy?

Micheleb -

My RD gave me samples of NapraPAC 500, for my inflammation since IBU was helping but is no longer helping as much. It is Naprosyn (naproxen) and Prevacid delyed-release tables together. You might can look into that if Naproxen helps ya.
