planning a family | Arthritis Information

Hey everyone!  New here.  My DH and I have been married 1 year and have decided to begin planning a family.  I'm 34 with JRA since I was 8.  I've read some of the older posts and am thrilled to have found others with the same issues.

Been off of Mtx for 5 weeks and will get off birth control pill in 4 weeks which should give us enough of a safety window away from the Mtx.  My concern is the Diclofenac.  I'm on 75mg 2x a day = 150 mg total.  I see that it's not recommended for pregnant women.  Any recommendations?  I've taken Naprosyn, Voixx, Voltaren and Ibuprofen and would like a safe(er)  alternative.

So far so good, but I've noticed flares a little more often and them lasting a little longer.  Holding off on taking Prednisone as long as possible.  Since I took it as a child, my bone density suffered.  Had great success with Fosamax, but don't want to gamble it again being in my 30s.

Also, has anybody had any joint replacements?  I've had both of my hips (revisions, too) and my left elbow replaced.  Didn't know if it would affect things.  Babysitting my nieces and nephews gave me some idea, but not full time!

Thanks in advance for your responses.  Hope this post finds everyone well.

hi , glad to have you join us . but as i have long finished having babies , i cant help you in the way of medications. i know of a safe anti imflammatory (fish oil ) my rheumy has me take 15 ml of liquid oil a day and i know that this will help you and your baby in many ways . talk to your rheumy before taking on anything new. best wishes to you and your dreams of becoming a mum. AllyHello, happy to have you here.  My youngest is 15 and I just got RA a year ago, so I can't speak from experience.  I do work in health care and would recommend that you meet with a obstetrician who works with high risk patients.  I would certainly do this before I got pregnant, especially with the meds that we are on and your hip replacements.

I wish you all the luck with a successful pregnancy!  We have 6 kids and they are the joy of our lives (well also a drain on our bank account and lots of sleepless nights) and wouldn't have it any other way.

When my 20 year old daughter broke her leg in 2 places I flew down to CA to be with her for surgery.  I made it to the hospital just a few minutes before she went in.  The look of relief on her face made me tear up.  I was able to care for her for several days and it was such a joy to be able to help and care for her.

She was so grateful that I was there, she even let me cuddle next to her in bed and called me "mommy".  That alone made up for a few of her teen years when I couldn't sleep. My son is now three. When I was planning on having a baby I did quit all
RA drugs. I did end up having to take Pred starting late in the 2nd
trimester.

My hardest time was after my son was born. The RA hit hard about 3
weeks after the fact.

It was all worth it! I still have rough spots but I wouldn't change it for the
world. Thanks to everyone for their responses.
