Hey Everybody.
Today i took my first dose of humira. Ive been on enbrel for 7 months, didnt really do much for me. I dont realize that its helping till i get sick and have to go off....then i realize how much worse i feel without it. Anyway im also on 5 mg pred(havnt been able to taper off completely) And also 25mg methotrexate. If Humira doesnt work whats next? Im 19, i dont have bad joint damage just in a lot of pain and swelling. Xrays last year looked good though, my blood work is almost always fine. its just frustrating to keep trying stuff and nothing works. makes me wonder if this dx is right. my blood work looks fine, no major joint damage, so how come im swollen and hurt so much?
how long does it take for humira to kick in? since i was already on enbrel will it be quicker? AHHHHHI dont know about it being a quicker effect if you have been on enbrel but i have been on humira ( on and off) since december 2006 and it isnt working for me at all but lots of other peple have had good results.Good luck with it and let us know how you go.

Hi, I haven't 'tried' Humira or Enbrel, but I had about given up hope with the 900 Remicade infusions once a month! (which was 3 times a much and more often than before!) plus upped my mtx from 4mgs to 20,  down to 3-1/2 preds, BUT ya know what.....now I think it is working!! So, I hope you can ask about remicade if the others don't work???

I know how you feel as I've been trying different doses for 4 months...not as long as you, but I know the frustration.

I drove a bright red red corvette yesterday, any suggestions for today? Fly an airplane? Go up in a hot air baloon? Sarah Lynda

Sarah- you could come and do my ironing for me if you want to attempt a major obstacletalking about ironing , my mum comes to visit about once a month and i save my ironing for her. she loves to help me and i certainly dont complain.I have been on Humira for almost 2 years.  It is not a quick fix or a different feeling all of a sudden.  What I noticed was I would move in a way (Inot thinking) that I could not move because of my arthritis--then I realixed "oh--I can do that again!"  Subtle changes--I don't think it was ever a pain reliever--it was meant to stop further damage from happening.  Let me tell you one really good thing that is happening--not sure why cause the RD says it should not happen but he is glad for me==my hand that getting very deformed has improved--a lot.  I noticed it and so did he when I went in.  I think it is the Humira--that it has lessened the pressure on the nerves, etc and it is relaxing and not so pointed to the side and my little curve in my little finger has lessened.  That is my story--don't know what to tell you to expect.  I am curious.  I wonder if my Humira is working.  No difference until like a week later.  Does that make sense? It was 3 doses of humira for me before I felt significant improvement.  It works very well for me.  The only problem I have had with it...it took me forever to "catch up" after I had to go off and on it over the winter months.  But I caught up and doing well!I have been on Humira bi weekly since late Oct. but had to go off in Jan to late April because of surgery. I have noticed that my swelling has gone down in my hands, my morning stiffness isn't as bad, and I have more energy. I still have pain and weather related flares but it isn't as bad as before. My rd is going to give it a few more months to see how it works. I go back in Aug. Then if it isn't working, I will try enbrel. I also take vicodin usually by early afternoon. I don't know if it's because I get up and push myself to do things or if it's from damage. This whole ra experience is hard to figure out.hey hurts...

if you are ored I am itching to put the pergola top over my deck...feel free to come over...and bring your hammer. I have an extra one though in case ya ferget yers...hehehehe..

I have been on, it seems like, everything except Embrel & aravia with no real help. I hope the Humria works for you. Heck, I even did the gold shots a long time ago. Wonder what my joints are worth at today's proces...maybe they would cover the new hip I am supposed to get some day...weeeeeeeee!!

One of the truly frusting parts for meHumira has been nothing short of miraculous for me. The swelling in my hands, and the pain in my shoulders, elbows, and upper rib cage was almost totally gone after the second shot. The pain in my hips, knees, and ankles lingered (at a greatly reduced level) until the seventh shot, when the Humira suddenly seemed to kick into another gear. All the pain and swelling in my legs, ankles, and feet is now gone. I took my ninth shot last week, and am virtually symptom free. For the first few shots, the aches and pains usually started returning 2 or 3 days before my next shot. Now, I'm good for the entire 14 days. My SED rate has dropped from 90+ to less than 10, and I'm also off of MTX!!

I kick myself in the butt every day for not starting Humira two years ago, when my rheumy first suggested it after my legs became horribly painful for the first time. I have permanent damage in my ankles and knees that I could have avoided had I not been such a chicken about giving myself a shot that has turned out to be virtually painless. I can walk just fine, but it could be so much better if I hadn't been so hard headed. Aaaaargh!!! Next time, I'll listen to my doctor.

Tree,  What  a wonderful post !!!!!!!!  It is SO good to hear GOOD NEWS.  Congratulations.  I have not given up on my Humira yet, especially since I know I have permanent damage and I overdo when I am feeling better.  Sometimes I doubt my Humira but I am not ready to give up on it.  You are an inspiration !!!!!! It's a shame that Humira doesn't work as well for everybody as it has for me. My rheumy told me that it's only really effective for folks whose RA symptoms are caused primarily by an overabundance of Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF). A lot of people with RA have an underlying cause unrelated to TNF, and don't get much relief from Humira (or Enbrel). My sister has RA too, has been taking Enbrel for about three years, and is in total remission. I figured if biologics worked for her, my odds were pretty good. I feel very fortunate. treefrog00139243.7728819444Thats great to hear treefrog!!!

Ok i have another question but im gonna post it as a new topic so people see it. Thanks so much you guys! took my first dose.....nothing yet but im a little more hopefull.
