 yikes.

I was working on the front porch yesterday when I heard Ally crying in the back yard. I walked through the house and out the back door onto the porch and... I feel like such an idiot.. Stepped off the back porch steps and found myself face down in the grass crying like a girl.

The guy next door came out and asked what happened, and promptly called an ambulance.

Each time another rescue squad worker arrived they would look at my ankle and say.."yep sure looks broken all right..."

They stabilized me and off we went to the ER where they shot me up with Dilaudid.. mmmmmmmmmm niiiiiiice.

They took about a dozen xrays, then the dr came and said it wasnt broken, but I need to see an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow.

All I know is it hurts like hell..and is about twice its normal size.

I broke this ankle when I was 11 and  have sprained it a half dozen times since..  Called the orthopedists office and he has closed his practice..sheeeeesh.

AW Kathy I am soooooo sorry about your fall, the dalaudid sounds wonderful

Take care

Lisa

Kathy, I'm so sorry! That must hurt like the dickins. I've gotten so clumsy (me,not you) that I think it's just a matter of time. I sure hope you feel better soon. If it's not one thing it's another...

Ah, Cathy, no good!  Sorry you hurt your paw.  Those ankles can be treacherous things when they fail us.  Hope you find another orthopod in your area quickly.

Janis

Ouch!  If its any consolation, I did the same thing about three years ago!  I hope your heals up better than mine did!  Keep us posted on what the ortho guy says!  Hugs and love.

((((hugs))))  Sorry your ankle is not being very nice to you right now.  Oh my yes dilaudid is great!!!!  I don't know if it kills the pain or if ya just really don't care anymore lol.

Let us know what the ortho says when you get in with another one.  Til then...RICE.  Rest (yeah right) Ice Compression Elevation!!!

Kathy in Wlsv from Kathy in Minn -

I fell last week on Wednesday 13 days ago. Really bend over my left ankle. Went to the ER. I was so happy - no fractures! Saw my PCP last Monday - 10 days after the fall and he said - Oh yes, according to the radiologist's report which he had, I do have a fracture in that left ankle, just where I suspected it was. He wanted to know why I hadn't see the ortho doc yet. It's a bad break and will need rehab. Why didn't someone tell me??? Who should have called?

You know, you still may have a fracture...

Kathy

Since I just went through my 20 year old daughters fall and fracture of her ankle, I must agree with Kathy.  I also know this because I have worked in Medical Records for so long.

Usually, the ER doc looks at you xray and does a good job of reading it.  But, they also have a Radiologist (medical doctor who specializes in Diagnostic Imaging) does and "over read" of picture.  He or she is the one who dictates the report.  You should always ask for a copy of the dictation (may take a day or two) since the ortho will ask to review the report and the film (which you will more than likely be asked to pick up from the hospital.

The ER will normally send a report to your primary care physician.  Unfortunately, it looks like you got lost in the shuffle.  Good luck!
