Would this freak you out? | Arthritis Information

I have been cleaning house.  I didn't wake up with it but I have a bruise, very dark, under my eye and the side of my nose.  I do feel a little stuffy so I am wondering if it is sinuses but I have never had anything like that happen before.  Angie, my aide, was really worried.  Would you be worried?I have never heard of that before. Sounds like you hit it but obviously you
would remember that.

Don't know......Go to the doctor right away.  That is how my MIL woke up and it was caused by macular degeneration, so this could be very serious.  Hopefully it is nothing, but you should get it checked out immediately.

I agree with Hillhoney, you should have the doctor take a look.  It could be from sinus pressure or something completly different.  Play it on the safe side and have it looked at.  I'm not as carefree and so easy to dismiss things anymore...this disease is just too strange.  Let us know what happens and how you're doing.

Peace & Love...Neasy

Any better Roxy?

Well I slept all day - I mean ALL DAY.  I was really sore from cleaning.  Anyway, the bruise is still there, it is a half moon, like a black eye.  I am guessing sinuses.  Thanks Hillhoney, Neasy and Rocky but I have to be dragged to the doctor these days.  I just don't like her.  The hospital in this city is an RA nightmare.  They are doing major renovation and you can't find a park space, you have to take a shuttle to the hospital and then it is a huge complex that you have to walk far to get anywhere.  Yep. I will probably die from not going back to that hospital

Hillhoney - What is macular degeneration?

Better say OT

Brett is coming up this weekend and I want the house/yard to look nice and me to look nice so I have been busy.  Hope the black eye is gone
My husband has that...all from his sinuses...but they were worried it could be something else..I don't remember what, but it was something bad, because I remember asking the Dr for a valium. (cause I was totall freaked out!)
I have these two weird rather large black and blue marks on the backs of my calves (sp? calfs?). They are identical, sort of greenish by now but I have NO idea how in the heck I got them. Could it be from our meds? My RD appt. was supposed to be July 12 but I just got a card in the mail that "Due to unforseen circumstances, I must reschedule" - Ummm, would that unforseen circumstance be his vacation???

My MIL woke up one morning, the vision in her eye was just a little bit blurry, nothing dramatic, could have been brushed off as nothing.  But when she looked in the mirror, she had what appeared to be a huge black eye, all around her eye, down into her cheek.  It was the beginning of macular degeneration, which involves the vascular system of the eye, and is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness.  Fortunately with treatment, she has maintained much of her vision.

No one here is a doctor, we don't have the ability to diagnose what's wrong with you.  But you will note that no one else has come forward and said, "Oh yeah that happened to me and it's just another RA thing."  I know you were probably hoping to hear that, and hearing that it could be something else serious has got to be exactly what you didn't want to hear.  But there are times in life when you just have push forward and do what needs to be done.

If you go to the doctor and he agrees with you that this is nothing but a problem with your sinuses, you have lost nothing except perhaps a few hours of your day.  Then you can rest easy and say "I told you so".  But considering that you have already had vascular problems in the recent past, I feel you would be foolish to not get this checked out.

Reminds me of the old lightbulb joke:

How many Jewish mothers does it take to change a light bulb?

None.  She says "Oh that's okay, I'll just sit in the dark."

Hillhoney39247.2955439815If you have ANY visual disturbances at all, drainage, light sensativity, redness, floaters or flashes of light, ANYTHING out of the ordinary you really do need to see a doctor ASAP.  I know we all hate running to the dr for every little thing but what if one day that little thing turns out to be a big thing?     roxy,If you are still taking humira one of the side effects is a blood disorder witch causes bruising. It suggests to call your RD right away.Take care,

Roxy how are you feeling today?  Did you end up calling the dr?

Yeah; that sounds really odd Roxy. I gotta agree with Hill; what do you have to loose?

And if that aid was concerned why wouldn't she take you to see the doctor? Is she not medically trained to recognize problems? Or is she like a housekeeper type aid?

After the recent "chains" in your head and the mini stroke problems I wouldn't fool around with this Roxy. Don't you have a regular GP there now? I think I'd go to my regular doctor verses an RD for that problem. I can understand you not wanting to go to the hospital.....but just see a doctor. I'm sure if you call with your symptoms they'll also consider this odd and squeeze you in.

Hope it turns out to be nothing......but have it checked out. You've got more than just yourself to think of.

Good Luck.

Now I have everyone mad at me.  The bruise has not changed so I see it as a good sign.  Also, my vision is fine and my head does not hurt.  If there are any changes, I will definitely go to doctor.  My aide is a housekeeper, personal aide for like help on hygiene but not medically trained.  I am just so busy right now with Brett coming home.  I am exhausted by the time my aide leaves as we are trying to get things nice for his visit.  I slept all day yesterday and I am going back to sleep now.  I am sorry I worried all of you.  I guess I was hoping for responses like - oh yeah - that happened to me.

PS  I am getting a lot of bruising lately.  I think I may call Humira and ask them about it.

No ones mad at you....just worried I guess. Bruising like you describe isn't usual even with sinus problems.

Hope it's no big deal like you say. Enjoy your visit with Brett this weekend.

I agree, we aren't mad, just concerned because we care!!  I hope you feel better after your nap!  I know I bruise a lot but the dr said it was from the prednisone. yea we just want to make sure its nothing more serious.  Have a great weekend with Brett!  Don't overdo yourself though..Roxy- I dont want to sound mean and nasty cause I'm not but if you dont get that bruising seen to instead of sorting the house for Brett you might not end up seeing him anyway and end up in the hospital. What is more important ?A nice clean house and end up in a hospital bed or seeing the doctor and being well for the wEekend so you can spend time with Brett.GET IT CHECKED OUTMy mother died of vasculitis. An autoimmune disease. The very first symptom was visiual problems in one eye. Came on all of a sudden. Just woke up one day with her eye hurting, couldn't see too well. (I don't think there was bruising but I'm not sure about that). She went to her GP, he sent her straight to a Rheumatologist. Her whole body began to shut down one system after another and she passed away within 2 months of just waking up with her eye hurting!! She did not have any form or arthritis.

If I wake up with any kind of visiual problems, bruising or not, I'll be at the doctor's office when they open up!!
Mary

I am going to doctor tomorrow if it is still bothering me.  A little sore.  I am also calling rheumatologist.  Slept all day again.

OK  I am a little freaked out.  The eye bruising is fading but I have bruises all over one arm.  I called rheumatologist and she is supposed to call back today.  I am not going to take my Humira this weekend until I hear from her.

I have bruised more since being on pred. but this is the worse I ever have.  I pray I do not have to go off Humira.  I think it helps me - even though it does not kick in for several days.

I think I have been sleeping more to escape aches and pain.  It was also suggested by Ron that it may be my stroke.  I learn so much from this board!

I believe that prednisone thins out your skin which makes it easier for you to bruiseRoxy, what have you found out?  Has your rheumatologist called you back? Would you mind filling me in on what has been going on with you medically since you started posting here? I feel like a heel for asking, but really want to know and don't have the energy to sift through a years worth of posts. I guess that is the price I pay for coming and going as I do.

Juliah,  Three months ago I had a mini stroke.  My RA is still not under control.  I have been blessed by an aide that comes for four hours, weekdays.  She helps a lot.  I posted about Kelsey and Brett on other thread.  I will tell you more when I am up to it.

I want to know what has been going on with you sweetie.

Did you ask what she could mean?

I did ask.  She said no need to discuss it until we get back blood test
