How many of you have asthma? Or had asthma?

I had asthma when I was 12 to about 17 years old. My asthma came on a little after I went into remission. I recently this pass couple of years have kinda made that connection.

I would have asthma attacks that I would have to go the ER and get breathing treaments. I seemed to only get those bad ones when I was stressed about something.

I am starting to have a hard time breathing again, since it is get humid and all. I seem to be coughing more when I take a deep breath.

Count me in as one with asthma.  Developed it about 16 years ago, oddly enough, I didn't have it as a child.I had it as a child, but I out grew it.

Sarah

I had a 2 bouts of it in the last 5 years. It seems to an aftermath to a bad cold. I had it for about 5/6 months both times. It goes away after using a steroid inhaler. I not sure my doc had the dx correct, but she sure got it to go away. NASTY biz

The first time I didn't realize I was having trouble breathing...I was super tired, could not walk a block without having to rest, could not yell even to save my life. Plenty of coughing but I was never gasping for breath but often breathless even after mild exertion like going up 3 steps. I totally flunked the blow into tube test.

I have had asthma since I was a child and eczema which seems to go hand in hand with asthma. [QUOTE=marian]

Yeah, I use to flunk those too when I had asthma. I would hate to see if I flunked it now.

I get to go to my NEW PCP July 9th, and I will mention it to him.

Ive had asthma all my life. Had it before I was old enough to take an inaler. lol i take singulair for it everyday along with my allergy meds, carry my inhaler everywere and take steroid inhalers when things get worse. Count me in for the asthma.  I have adult onset tho.  It came right after the ra all those moons ago.  Some say it is auto immune and some say it is not.  I was told by a couple of different docs it can be auto immune which would explain the onset after the ra for me.  I have adult onset asthma too.  Diagnosed in 1995.NOPE!!  One thing I can say I have never had, lets put that in the positive list.  I decided to make a list of positives and negatives in my life to try and overcome some of my "issues" at the moment. I don't have asthma, but my partner developed adult onset asthma about the same time I developed RA.

I also note that while researching minocycline that many people on it report it has cured their asthma. That got me wondering about the infection connection again.

It's odd, Joonie, that you posted this question because last night I started a thread asking if people had partners or family memebers who had asthma, but I tried to explain why I was asking and it got to cumbersome (I was really tired) so I deleted it.

So I'd be curious to know if anyone has partners or live in family members who have asthma?

I think for some people RA does stem from infection and for others, it is probably just hereditary.

I mean... look at lyme disease, it has the same symptoms as RA, and sometimes gets labled as RA, but is curable with anti-biotics. So, it would make sense that some people do respond well to the AP therapy, and why some do not respond at all.

Me, I do not think I would respond to AP therapy. Because I have responded to many of the RA meds I was put on, but like everything else in life my body got use to taking it and it no longer was helping or did not help enough.

But no, no one that lives has asthma.

My oldest niece, she has really bad asthma, she got hers when she was about 16. She never had a symptom of asthma before then. Since she has been clinically dead a handful of times from her asthma.

My mom has asthma, but not the normal kind. I think they said hers was from old age, and being an x-smoker. She does not have attacks, she just has a hard time breathing and takes a puff or 2 on her inhaler and uses singular once a day.

My asthma is clearly hereditary, as both of my grandmothers had it, my first cousin and I have it, and now 2 out of my 3 children also have it.  My spouse doesn't have asthma, or even any allergies.I had asthma from 6th grade till after I had Kelsay.  It bothers me once in a while now but nothing like it used to.  Kelsay does have it also though not severe, when she gets sick it triggers it, and she also has excema.  My grandmother has it along w/ my father i have had severe asthma since i was born . have been in hospital so many times during my life i couldnt even count . my younger years were spent with shocking medications and never being able to participate in sports. my teenage years i rebelled and thought i would just deny i had a problem . i started smoking cigarettes and doipe just to be in with the crowd. was in intensive care so many times but didnt stop me smoking. got married had 3 kids and still smoked . kids all now get asthma too. 4 years ago the smoking finally killed me litterally. i actually died in the chopper heading to the royal adelaide hospital. i was then put in an induced coma to help the healing of my tobacco filled lungs. 10 days later and repeated attempts to revive me i awoke a different person. i was scared to be near anyone who smoked. i could not move and i was in extreme pain. finally then diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis . so as you can see asthma along with smoking has caused me to now live like this. i am happy to be alive to be with my kids and grandkids but i know it was all my own doing that has caused this. so i have to learn to accept the way i am now , and learned a huge lesson in life. do not ever take life for granted. sorry about the long post. just had to get it out
