Prednisolone side effects - feel horrid! | Arthritis Information

I started taking prednisolone on Friday - 3 days ago, 20mg.  And I feel pretty lousy.  Kind of spaced out and I feel really sick.

No change to my other symptoms yet, but I know it's early days.

But did anyone else feel like this when they first started taking it?

And how long did it take before your fever started to come down, and the flu-like symptoms, and joint pains started to pass?

Hi

Thanks for your posts, very much appreciated right now.

And to Anna - I'm very new to this, so this is my first medication.  I'm seeing the rhuematologists in 2 weeks to report back and to work out some different medication.  I have been 'sensitive' in a similar way, to other medication in the past - such as codeine and some anti-biotics - so hopefully it's just the same thing here, and also maybe it's the 'enteric coating' that's doing it? Are yours the same? There seems to be a very long list of ingredients in just the coating!  The medicine itself has only a few!

I too have noticed a very small improvement, in that I can tell when the pred is waring off in the early evening, firstly because the spacy feeling subsides and also because my temperature starts to go up - so hopefully that's a sign that the pred is having some effect (mine is thought to be stills disease, so the fever I was told would be the first thing I'd notice a change in after a few days).  The pain and flu symptoms are worse in the evening too.  Is that the same for you?

Fingers crossed that this gets better - for both of us!

I'm planning on phoning my GP in the morning to see if there's anything I can do.  Otherwise, I'll just persevere and hope I start to notice a bigger difference.

i get spaced out on pred also . i am getting better from having a lung infection but the doc started me on 50mg a day for 7 days . the PA pain didnt go away though . i am on 12.5 mg now and still feel spaced out on it . i also get headaches and prednisone diabetes .

Hi

Thanks allycat, I hope you feel better soon.

I'm feeling much less spaced out now, just nauseous now.  But I'm still not improving as yet, hopefully my fever will start to come down soon??
