I woke up today in horrible pain. I had a rough night last night. Won't be posting anymore today because my hands hurt so bad I can hardly stand it. Where do you guys hurt? What do you do when the pain gets unbearable? I feel nauseous from the pain, does that happen to you? I have a rheumy appt Wednesday but want to go in NOW. I need something immediate to cope. I can't take steroids. Any suggestions? thanks, jPlease phone them the minute they 'answer their phone' you need help!!!. I can't suggest anything as Prednisone (the steroid we love and hate) saved me....sorry you can't take it. Good luck getting in to see the dr early. I use to say, "I'm screaming with pain' (the truth), My heart doctor recommended I go to ER, when I was in terrible pain, but I knew it was the RA and I don't know if they would give you anything except powerful pain pills. Maybe you need them for now? Lynda

Hi,

If you can't get any response fro your rheumatologist then, as Hurts suggested, go to the ER. They will give you more than the regular pain pills if they determine that you're in bad pain and, from your post, it appears as if this pain is acute and needs a powerful shot.

I certainly hope you can get some relief asap.  Take care, D.

Even urgent care will give you a pain shot.  Yes, I get very nauseous and actually do throw up from the pain.  My hands, wrists, feet, ankles, toes, hips, jaw and knees ALWAYS hurt.  It feel like I have the flu most of the time, that achy everywhere feeling.  There isn't much of anything that doesn't hurt to be honest.  I hope you feel better soon. I also throw up from pain. Most people look at me like I am crazy when I
say that...whoo hooo-glad to find other crazies too!

Urgent care is an option to tide you over until Wed. Sorry to hear that
you are hurting

As an adjuvant to pain medication, I frequently use a TENS unit. I've used it on my neck, shoulders, back, knees, and ankles. It does't actually take the pain away, but it's distracting so you don't notice the pain as much. Many times I go to bed with it on to help me fall asleep.

My orthopedic surgeon wrote a prescription for it, so it was covered by my insurance.  Even the refill electrodes and patches are covered.

Might be something worth looking into. :)

when i get so bad that the pain makes me feel like throwing up i just shut myself away in bed . or get in a warm bath or shower . sometimes my hubby will see how bad i am and run a bath for me . as i get too bad sometimes to help myself .
