How many of you that are taking prednisone are checking your blood sugars
routinely? Just curious?Lori I have a full blood count as well as the other usual tests every month.  Or do you mean a fasting one??   Don't have that. My last test showed my sugars to be low ( 66 )

Yikes, am I supposed to be doing that?  I'm at high risk for Type II Diabetes..it runs in my family and I am obese.  But thankfully my blood sugar has always been good....I check it from time to time with my father's meter or my husband's.

I just started 5 mg of pred daily a few weeks ago.  Guess I gotta start checking the glucose again.

Yikes Lori!! In telling the saga of my sister's RA issues I totally forgot about the diabetes. She takes four shots insulin a day. Pred induced diabetes...Sheese!!

I have a fasting blood sugar done every 3 months.  So far my ranges have been normal.  I'm aware of the normal highs as being a precursor to type 2 diabetes and I graphed my range levels in the last year and I fall in the mid range total.  People should be aware that if you have a normal range and if it's on the high normal end then you should be making some dietary and lifestyle changes.  Your chance of developing type 2 diabetes is higher.  Talk to your primary care doctor about your numbers and prediabetes.

Go to mayoclinic.com and search prediabetes.  They have a very informative site.  Lindy

My Gp does them everytime I have my other bloods done. All looks good so far.Hi all,

For the first time (and I have had my blood checked alot before due to problems with anemia) my blood sugar was high last month.  I am only on  7.5mg of pred.  I don't have any other risk factors for diabetes, though I am still overweight.  But I have lost 27 lbs in the last year due to RA and the drugs.

I don't exercise much anymore, but I did start a water workout this week.  I couldn't even move the next day I was in such pain. But my doc wanted me to exercise and I have tried others and I was too exhausted.

I used to swim all the time, in the ocean, across lakes, in the river.  No problem.  Now a 40 minute (very gentle) exercise program in the water almost did me in. Mine are checked during my monthly blood tests by the GP. i didnt even think about it till you posted this.  I dont get mine checked but when i was in the ER they did ALOT of bloodtest and the glucose test was one of them, well it was at 107.. The range for it was 65-110Speaking as someone who was already diabetic, I can attest to the fact that Prednisone does make it alot harder to keep your blood sugar normal, but the relief I got from it was so worth the extra monitoring. My primary dr talked about pred, but didn't want me to take it, so I never had. It was a life saver during the flare I had last year. I would think that any woman who had gestational diabetes should really be cautious about what pred might do to them.

I have standing orders for a CBC, CMP (complete metabolic panel, including fasting blood sugar), ESR, & CRP every 6 weeks. My blood sugars seem to be holding steady in the normal range, but I'm only on 8 mg. of Medrol (equivalent to 10 mg. Prednisone). However, with my Mother being a severe/brittle diabetic, I usually check my own blood sugar a couple of times in between the 6 week period
