Could this cause an RA flare-up? | Arthritis Information

The first flare I ever had was a couple months ago. The doctor put me on Prednisone for 9 days and I haven't had a problem since. Well, my periods have always been messed up, but I just noticed today, that I'm on my 4th day and I'm starting to get a little stiff and pop a lot. When I had my first flare, I was on my 4th day as well. Think there could be a connection? I'm not in any pain just yet and hope I don't get any. I just feel a little swollen in my right hand, and my right elbow is wanting to pop a lot.

yeah, periods will make ya flare. Mine does. It never use to, but now it does.

Sorry. Hope things get better for ya.

I hope it works out for you and gets better :)

No, never a bad flare. Just flare a little here and there, and lay in the bed and take IBU until it goes away. It surely makes sense to me that your body is in a hormonal snit fit, and so just the stress of your period would seem to be enough to cause a 'flare', maybe you could get a supply of prednisone to have around for a few days during your period. We can treat ourselves for this disease as long as we don't 'over do' it. My doc has given the okay to go up and down while I'm trying to get off of the pred. I'm at 2-1/2 today. GOINg down!Lynda

i often wonder why i flare during and right before my period? i am at the point of getting a hysterectomy so i am not sick 5 days out of every month. but than i will flare because i have to go off my medicine for surgery! cant win with this disease

Yeah, I get a flare in the 2 or 3 days running up to my period. Sometimes bad, sometimes its a minor flare.

Methotrexate actually controlled it well though. (Had to come off it due to reaction)
