i cant understand why i am in a lot of pain and yet my sed rates are staying fairly low . do others have this happen . and what are your sed rates ? mine usually sits around 22-30Yep, ally, mine usually sitting at around between 26 & 30,  and I'm usually quite comfortable, but during my last flare was only 17!!   I couldn't believe it, although my RH. said it wasn't that out of the ordinary.  I was in agony!!

And at the times when my sed rate has been up around 36, when I would expect problems, nothing was out of the ordinary, so I guess thats another one of those crazy things that happen to us all.

Have you been coming down off Pred??   It's pretty tough coming down at the lower doses, and much the same kind of pain as the flaring.

Hope your pain reduces soon, no matter what the cause.
yes i am on pred at the moment with a lung infection. so i am on antibiotics and have had to stop taking the arava. started on 50mg pred two weeks ago and now only on 8mg. the pain is awful but my sed rate is still low so the doctors think everything is ok.Hi there, I too have a low sed rate at the moment and am have a horrid flare, swollen knees and toes. Its a mystery cause before when my sed rate was high i felt better.

I have the same problem.  I am very visibley swollen and red and in pain but my blood work is relatively normal!  Doesn't make a lick of sense to me either!!! I asked my RD about this...even when I had very visible swelling in my hands and feet my sed rate was low between 6-10.  He said that this is fairly common, especially with the smaller joints.

dordale :)
My sed rates always seem to run on the low side. Even if I'm in a flare with a lot of swelling and inflammation, I'm rarely above 20. My CRP levels are always high though. I just had blood work done this week and my CRP was 17, and I'm not flaring at the moment. When I do flare, I've had my CRP level as high 39.My sed rates have always been within the normal range and not a good indicator for the arthritis activity.  My docs monitor my CRP level to gauge the arthritis.A lot of docs aren't looking at sed rates as much as looking at anti-CCP as the marker today.  My sed rate can be fairly low while the anti-CCP is high.  Doesn't make sense to me!
