Please tell me what to do with my foot! | Arthritis Information

It's killing me!  Yesterday morning, I was driving to work and noticed that it was so painful to put my foot on the brake and the gas pedals.  I managed not to get myself killed somehow (hubby drove me to work today). When I got to work, the pain didn't stop.  It's sorta in the top of my foot, sorta like cramping, sorta like burning.  Sometimes I feel the pain back to the inside of my heel or forward to my instep, but always on top.  And it's totally relentless.

I'm on all my usual meds, plus the Vicodin ES.  With that and the pred, at least I'm not going out of my mind with the pain...yet.

I have my shoes off (at work) and put my foot up when I can but it makes no difference.  I tried hot and cold and no difference.  I tried changing positions and no difference.  It doesn't matter if I'm standing, walking, or sitting, no difference.  Hubby massaged it a little last night and that helped for a few minutes, but then I was right back where I started.

I did have some similar pains in my right hand last night, but they were fleeting.

So what can I do with my foot??? Please make it stop!!

i use my foot spa when my feet get that bad .  some people find cold works but for me the hotter the better. if you havent got one a bucket will do sit back relax and soak in some nice hot water.

Hi, I sure know that foot pain. Mine is in the bottom left foot between the middle toes. That fatty part of you foot. Boy it felt like a hot poker had been applied to my foot. I couldn't touch it!! I wanted cordisone shot, but my doc said, he couldn't give it to me (doesn't know how and didn't want to experiment....thanks!!). He upped my Remicade and Mtx, and said to take more prednisone (this was a couple of weeks ago),now I'm not having that pain.

I hope you can get something to help you, Lynda

The tops of my feet and my toes and my ankles are really awful.  Try to do this, if you can get down on your knees, bend  over so you are on all fours, then turn your toes under your feet so its stretching them out.  Do you have any lidoderm patches?  If not, maybe try a drug store patch, like the icy hot ones. When you get home, try to find a sock thats tighter around your foot but loser around your ankles to try and push some of the fluid out.  You can even get compression socks at the drug store, they are pricey and hard to get on but they do help!  I hope it feels better soon!  I also LOVE my spa wax bath!!

I was having that same problem with my left foot yesterday myself. It felt like all the bones in the top of my foot were cramped up but it only hurt when I was on it. Today it's fine! Go figure.

Any swelling?

Hope yours goes away quickly and the problems will be short lived.

My swelling's mostly in the ankles, but some near the toes and the tops of my feet.  I did try stretching them out, but...no difference.

Unfortunately I can't soak anything until tonight, and I have customers in the office so today's gonna be rough.  And my stomach has starting hurting too.

I think I'm just going to have a fine whine...

Innerglow,
I too have trouble with my feet and toes.  Just as you describe, like type of cramping.  I find really thick soft fluffy socks help a lot.  If I don't wear them to bed I can be sure to be awake with bad pain.

can you rub some ibuprofen gel on it?
when my left foot gets really bad usually i just have to leave it for about 15 minutes till it calms down and then i can take my weight on it again, though still sore, but just as you described.

Innerglow,

I would call Dr. Clay.

I was going to post on your last post about your foot, but my computer wouldn't let me. It sounds just like what I had last year - I went to the ER on a weekend, wondering if it was broken. It was gout! That's a form of crystal arthritis and very painful. Common with RA. My son also has it. We both have high levels of uric acid, not caused by what we eat, though it can be if you eat a lot of organ foods. We both take allopurinol, a fairly inexpenswive drug with few side effects.

Go on in - get your uric acid checked and let me know if I'm right!

I also have problems with my feet. They also hurt to drive for very far. It is a lot better since MTX but I still get flares of it. Like right now.....LOL I have no cure or anything to make it better. But I do feel your pain.

P.S. My gout cleared up quickly after I was on the medicine.

Innerglow:

So sorry about your foot pain. I feel your pain. I have been going through the same thing. The only thing I find  that works is vicodin and elevating it on a pillow. Alternate heat and ice every 15 or 20 minutes a few times a day. It will get better soon.

take care

Crystal arthritis?  Is that the same as gout?  Ouch!

Gout?  Oh I hope not, but at least being able to resolve it simply with a medicine sounds good.

Interestingly enough, my foot hurts worse when I'm sitting or elevating it, and better when I'm standing on it.  Of course I can't remain standing because of my SI joints and lower back, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Friday I had to leave work early because it was so bad I couldn't think.  Soaking it in warm water did help a bit, as did my husband massaging it, but the pain was back to full force within an hour or two.  It seems to be a little less today (day 5).  If it's still here tomorrow, or it gets worse again, I'll call the dr and look into the gout/crystal arthritis.

Kathy, did your pain come on suddenly like this?  I guess I imagined that gout/crystal arthritis would have to build up in your system and come on gradually.

Yes, my gout came on rather suddenly. I've had lots of foot pain - even had both forefeet redone, bunions removed, fractures, etc. This was different - the pain was on the top of the foot - felt hot, hurt all the time, was red. I thought it could have been a stress fracture or something, but the ER doc figured it out right away. And it did go away quickly after he gave me the allopurinol. He also added an NSAID for the first few days. I haven't had it since. Why wait? Check it out!
