why are mornings so bad? | Arthritis Information

this is something I would love to understand because it
seems odd to me that you should wake up and feel awful
and by 6-7 oclock at night you feel kind of ok even if
you still have pain/swelling.
normally when people are ill, arent they ill at any
time of day? its a bit like when you get flu, the
mornings are awful, the evenings are awful but not
quite as awful as the mornings!!!
annaHi, yes , you want to get up and get going in the morning, lots to do!! When I was really really sick and I would have a 'good hour or so' I'd stay up, no matter the time, I was so happy to be feeling better (sometimes at 2 am I'd be watching TV, making food, enjoying myself). My poor husband went through being awakened at all hours for one thing or another. He was really sweet about it and said, it is a small thing for me when you are suffering so much! So enjoy your good times and I hope the mornings get better. LyndaMornings are the worst I agree.I think its because when we rest our bodies get stiff and I know if I get too hot in bed I wake up with swollen joints,it takes a good 2 hours to get the good parts ofme to work so I can function for the day.I get the same feeling about 2pm after I have rested, but I need the rest to cope with the eveningsRemember that RA is a disease of inflammation of the synovial lining of the joints.  This is the fluid that lubricates the joint.  When you sit for a while or sleep this fluid starts to "gel" or thicken.  Once you start to move again the fluid loosens up and redistributes around the joint.  The duration of the morning stiffness is considered an important clinical sign of disease activity.I am just the opposite, I am tired and stiff in the morning but the series pain progresses as the day does. It always takes me a bit to get moving in the morning.  Once I have gotten up and gotten going I feel a little better.  It helps that I take my pain meds and then relax for about 30-45 minutes before I do start moving around and get chores done.  Now that we are getting into the more humid weather of summer I also put my a/c on before I start any chores and get the humidity out of the house.
