MTX and Insurance... | Arthritis Information

I am trying to find out if and how much my insurance will cover for MTX if my Rd ends up putting me on it. He told me he was going to either add it along with the Plaquenil or replace the Plaquenil with it come Aug 10 if the Plaquenil is still not working. Can anyone tell me how it is prescribed and how often you usually take it?

Just kind of a ruff idea....Thank you!

I was taking 20 mg. (total of 8 tablets @ 2.5 mg. each) once a week. My RD prescribed a 3 month supply at a time, I sent the prescription into the BC/BS mail order pharmacy and paid for the 3 month supply. Brisen39258.8597453704

Depends on how you decide you want to do the mtx.  My insurance covers the pills at a co-pay.  My insurance does not cover the injectable the mtx.  It costs me the same without my insurance to do the injectable mtx with far less side effects.

I started on 15mg of mtx weekly and now on 20mg weekly.

Hi Lisa, MXT is one of the more reasonable priced meds that any of us are taking.  My copays are for a 4 week supply irregardless if it's pill form or inj.  I use inject. MXT.

Liz, won't your ins. pick up the MXT inject. if your Dr. writes a letter of necessity for the inj. and sends to the ins?  There are reasons to use the inj. versus pill form.  Do they think we're crazy?  I'd much rather take the pills than inject myself.  Lindy

My daughther just started taking it, she is only 6, and only takes .2 ml. It was fairly inexpensive and covered by our insurance (Blue Shield). Hope this helps!

Lindy...if it were any more expensive I would probably have my doc write that letter.  I am saving my big guns in case I have to go on any of the infusion meds which they do not cover.

Gotta love insurance companies!!  NOT!!!!
