Ever since my first dose of methotrexate, I've been extremely thirsty. I am drinking 16-17 oz of water at a sitting and then an hour or two later feel dehydrated and need to do it again. Is this normal? I know water is good for you, but input=output and I would like to spend some time in another room besides the bathroom. If i remember ,I too had a thirst with MTX. But was told to drink lots with it anyway. If it continues as bad then speak to your doctor

I was extremely thirsty and lethargic when I took MTX.  I drank gatorade like it was going out of style.  Unfortunately, my experience with MTX was not a good one.  It made me very sick for about 3 days.  I experienced symptoms much like the flu....extreme fatigue, body aches, chills, vomiting, diarrhea and extreme thirst.  Two years of going through that weekly because of a study I was on and it never let up.  Once the study ended, I declined continuing on the MTX and have always wondered if what I experienced with MTX could of been some type of allergic reaction.  I never noticed that it helped my RA in any way but do know it has been a miracle drug for many.  I have also heard that with some people the symptoms go away.  It's very important to make your RD aware of anything unusual while taking any of these drugs and make sure they are keeping up on labwork.  Also, are you taking folic acid with the MTX?  If not, it's a good idea and I'd discuss dosage with your RD.

Good luck & keep us posted as to what you find out and how you're doing.

Peace & Love...Neasy

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll mention the thirst at my next appointment. I did have my glucose checked. It was 85. So I guess I am alright for now.
