I don't post much, try to read when I can..
I went back to my RD today, the pred has dropped my ESR's and CRP level significantly and now the dr wants to wean down the pred and see what the Arava is doing.
Wish I could say I was feeling better though.
We also went through my chest xrays and such and she believes I have Rheumatic Lung disease as well... she said the meds I was on will help that.. does anyone have any info about it?
She said I significant Osteoarthritis in my neck and upper back.
I feel like such a freak right now... even my little 6 year old has taken to trying to help me walk around.

Hi Wishing, my sister with RA has RA Lung. I wish I could give you better news because you seem young but it is pretty rough for Barb right now,she is on O2 24/7 and C-Pap machine at night. She had asthma before and the RA has just aggravated that. She has to stay on pretty much high doseages of Pred. Sometimes as much as 75mgs down to 20mgs right now. She also uses 4 different inhalers. Most of the time she does OK but her breathing is always shallow and kinda wheezy.
Barb is 66yrs old so Pneumonia is a real threat so any congestion gets an antibiotic. Pluerisy is a given. I hope you feel better soon and if RA is your only health risk your lungs will probably recover. Barb has numerous other health issues. Do you have a good Pulminologist? If not, you need one. Barbs has helped her a lot and keeps a good check on her. Good Luck and God Bless You...

Genesis... thanks for the info about your sis... yes, I am reasonably young, early 40's... growing family etc. I have had breathing issues most of my life... and at present I was in a good space with that... no pneumonia, off antibiotics etc.. so being given this diagnosis has been a shock. I am going to arrange to see my family dr next week so she can send me on to a chest dr ... as my old one has retired.
Today is day one of my taper down off 7.5 mg pred... I am not sure how this is going to affect me and I am feeling just a little scared.

((((hugs))) to you and your family. Genesis gave some awesome info on the RA Lung. It is one of the conditions I am afraid of developing since I already have asthma.
It is a little scary going off the pred and I wish you luck with that.
Don't feel like a freak. My kids have had to help me walk around too. Heck they have had to help me get off the toilet before lol. It's all part of the RA and actually something completely normal around here.
Sorry you're having such a hard time of it. Please take care of yourself, and don't ignore any upper respiratory infection.
