The handout my RD gave me on Methotrexate has a section that cautions taking it with other NSAIDs.  He didn't say anything about me stopping my Relafen.  Should I?

Also, is it better to take the Methotrexate with food at dinner time?  I see some people stating they take it right before bedtime.

I've never heard of relafen, but when I started taking MTX, both the pharmacist and the Doc called to tell me not to take motrin, which I had a prescription for.

I take advil on a regular basis with my doctors blessing. I have heard that before though....but IUB is my favorite daytime med so as long as my doctor approves it I keep taking it. Your relafin is simular. (Only stronger!)

I take my MTX soon after dinner on Saturday evenings. You kind of need to experiement and see what works best for you.

I inject my mtx in the evenings after supper because of the tummy issues it can cause and also how sleepy it makes me.

I would guess if your doc said you can take relafen with the mtx I would go ahead and keep taking it.  My doc said avoid nsaids but I still take ibuprofen once in awhile when I have a real bad headache and I havenn't had any bad side effects from it.

Yes, the mtx information says that but then some doctors prescribe the two
togeteher all the time (and some pharmacists warn against it). My RD said to
take ibuprofen for pain. Please ask your doctor.

Just don't take any aspirin.Talk to your RD.  I was taking Celebrex and stopped it when I started MXT because of stomach issues.  I didn't want to add an ulcer to an ever growing list of complications.  Lindy

Its because of the impact on the liver, which is one of the reasons you will get regular blood work.  But the warning is really much more important when you are taking MTX for cancer treatment.  At RA doses its not such a big deal and NSAIDS are more likely than not to be prescribed along with MTX

Thanks guys.  Guess I'm just kind of nervous.  I'll quit bothering everyone now. Oh hunny it's ok.  Ask all the questions that you want.  It is not a bother.  How else are you going to learn unless you ask questions!!!  That is what we are all here for!!!You aren't bothering anyone! That's a really big concern for so many. Don't ever hesitate to run the question by the group here. LOts of folks here have been at this for years and are easier to reach in a pinch......but always follow up with your doctor. That's the one advice we all seem to agree on.

[QUOTE=kweenb]Thanks guys.  Guess I'm just kind of nervous.  I'll quit bothering everyone now.

Everyone is nervous when they start taking medication for their RA>  These medications can have some serious side effects.  I believe that the more knowledge we have the better we can protect ourselves.  You could never be bothering anyone with these questions.  We all learn from each other.

Thanks everyone!  You guys are great.  I lreally ove this board.  You are all very knowledgeable.

I was nervous over nothing.  No nausea last night.  No tiredness so far today.  Yeah!  I'm doing the "happy dance!"  Now, I'm hoping it works for me and that I don't lose my hair!

Taking mine after eating has made a huge difference.  I am doing the happy dance for you---glad you can't see me since I am
"unique" dancer.

Glad you are feeling good!

Becky YAY!!!!  So glad you haven't had any nausea or ill effects from the mtx!  I hope this starts you on the road to feeling way better!
