I told you about my painfull hands ....I still had some PMR stiffness in the AM aswell. (I am not taking pred anymore ) (The PMR stiffness would go away in an hour or 2/3 hours.)
One week on 200mg of Plaquenel and not only feel my hands better(index still stiff) but my PMR pain is totally gone! I wake up like a normal person would.
It makes me think if dangerous pred is the only medication for PMR!
I'm so glad to hear that you are feeling well. I was reading your messages and just didn't know what to say.
After feeling well and then having pain again, I just felt so bad. Mary
I am wondering if the docs should start prescibing plaquenel for PMR patients!Hi Marianne,
My doc took me off prednisone and put me on Plaquenel - I suppose because he wasn't sure it was PMR. I took it for a week, then had to quit because it triggered RLS (I've never heard of that with anyone else).
I didn't have any of the great results in that short time that you had. On the other hand prednisone has been a wonder drug for me - bringing relief in 6 hours. Perhaps the plaquenel didn't work for me because I did have PMR and it is working for you since you have RA now. I'm just guessing of course - I have no idea what really works for what.
The great thing is that you're getting relief, and it's a drug that can be taken for many years by a lot of people! That is so encouraging to the rest of us who end up with various kinds of inflammatory arthritis.
Take care,
Eliza
I have been taking both prednisone and plaquenel for my PMR for at least 2 years, and it has worked very well. The Dr. used plaquenel instead of increasing the prednisone. I tried using methotrexate with the prednisone for a while, but I didn't feel any relief from it.
At this point, any relief is a good thing.
