muscle spasm in hand | Arthritis Information

I had the strangest muscle spasm last night right after doing my mtx shot.  I am not sure if it is shot related or just RA in general related.

I gave myself my shot (realtively an easy thing to do) and about 2 minutes after that I had a muscle spasm in my left hand (I am right hand dominant) that dislocated my middle finger.  When the spasm calmed down, my finger popped right back into place.  This was just oh so painful and I want to try to prevent this from happening again if at all possible.  I am having a mild flare (on 30mg of pred for 5 days and it is working well) and I just don't know what to think of this.  It has never happened before even when I was so bad off before.  Any thoughts?  Suggestions??

Besides being painful it was definitely one of the weirdest things I have ever seen my body do lol.

I have been having muscle cramps in my hands, usually the left hand.  Wouldn't call it a spasm.  I've only had this happen in the last few months & don't know if its the RA or MTX or what?  It can be painful and inconvenient if it happens while I am driving!

Grams, I get them in my hands, feet and calves. Usually with me it is because my potassium is low.

I take 2 Lasix and 4 Potassium (rx) per day. Even then, I still get them sometimes.

Maybe you should have your doc check your potassium next time. They might already be checking it with your regular bloodwork. It also could be something else causing it. That's just the most common reason I can think of.

Hope you get it controlled. You're right, they really hurt.

I forgot to tell you; there is a muscle or tendon on the inside of your wrist. If you can put pressure on it with your other hand and massage it, sometimes the cramp will relax.

Hugs,

Nini

Well.........I could say something.............but I won't.

I've never had a spasm that was THAT bad.......I'm sorry for you hun :( Call your doc, you have great ones, they'll give you an idea, I'm sure. :)

I also seem to be getting a lot more than usual.  Sometimes they interfere with sleeping.  Or when I am driving.  One day I am going to get into a terrible accident because my toes are trying to curl up from muscle spasms.  I hate when that happens.

I'm so sorry, that sounds so scary and painful. I've never heard of anything like that! fortunately 'it popped back' , (I'm not keen on potasium, as I was taking 1mg of lasix and I took a potasium pill, and got terrible leg cramps afterwards? Don't know if it was the potasium but when I stopped the lasix and potassium I haven't had them?

ARe you affraid you will have the weird cramp again? Lynda

yikes, that sounds incredibly painful! Holy cow woman, you don't do things half-way, do you? I hope you never experience it again.

Peace & Love....Neasy

Yikes, that is too weird. Maybe you can get to be in a book of weird medical
anamolies, now. And your skeleton might make it to the Mutter Museum.
