Limbrel anyone?? | Arthritis Information

Hello all. I'm new here. I have RA -seronegative as well as polycystic kidney disease. My list of meds is below. I was wondering if anyone has experience with Limbrel. It is a prescription "medical food" item that is flavenoid based (supposedly natural)and works to block both the cox and lox inflammatory pathways. It is not an NSAID. I recently read about this in arthritis magazine and it peaked my interest. Due to my kidney disease technically I should not take NSAIDS, but I do because I like being able to move. This seems like it could be safer.

Has anyone used this? Did it work for you? Does insurance cover it?

I would love to hear your input before I speak to the Dr's about it. Thanks, Doglady

Hi and welcome to the board!!!

Well this was something new for me so I jumped out on the web and did a little googling.

It seems as if this is a natural product approved by the FDA to treat inflammation.  It is supposed to work the same way as like Celebrex but without the side effects of traditional NSAIDS.  I found a couple of sites where it said the flavanoids in the Limbrel are also the same as some of the flavanoids found in green tea.  It is termed a "medical food" because a medical food provides nutritional support for a specific disease or condition and is intended to be used under the supervision of a physican.

I think this could be great for people that can not take traditional nsaids due to side effects or other medical conditions that prohibit taking an nsaid.

I checked over at my insurance companies website and surprisingly enough this medication is covered.  It is at a tier 3 co-pay which is .  But it is covered.  It is some saving thru insurance since I checked retail price at Walgreens and it is 6 without insurance.

I hope this is covered for you and it works well for you!!
