Enbrel, low white blood cell count? | Arthritis Information

Hi, has anyone experienced or know about severe low white blood cell count and Enbrel? A guy I just talked to today, said his aunt had almost died from taking enbrel, and that the cause was low white blood cells, the pancreas was affected!! Does anyone know? He said 4 people were in the same hospital for the same problem? LyndaI have had low white counts before but not severe. It makes sense as
they are immunosuppressents. I guess I always figured the dr. would
catch it before it got too bad with blood tests. Thats crazy---4 people!rocckyd39264.8421180556

Sounds suspicious.  Low white blood cell count and inflammation of the pancreas are listed as rare enbrel side effects.  What are the odds of 4 people having a rare reaction at the same time in the same hospital...must be extremely small.  And how would this person know that the 4 people had this problem...did he meet them.  The hospital staff wouldn't discuss their condition. People have a tendency to exaggerate to add drama to their stories.

Alan

I had low white blood cells from Methotrexate alone and had to be in the hospital for a week.  One week I felt fine and the next week I was sicker than sick.  I was off of it for 3 months and got into a major flare.  I then took Enbrel, then a year later was back on Methotrexate with it.  Now I am switching to Remicade along with the Methotrexate.  So far no new scares.I don't know I just heard this today, and wondered if anyone had experienced problems like this? LyndaI agree with Alan, it does sound suspicous and how does he know?  Either that or there's a doctor in that area that's not monitoring their patients carefully enough. I tend to think that someone doesn't know what they're talking about or they have a little bit of information and they've blown everything out of proportion.  I've been on Enbrel since last September--no problem with low white blood cell count so far.  It does sound suspicious that four people at the same hospital would have this...
