Got any plans for the 4th of July?Actually SEEING fireworks. I've missed out on 4th of July, New Years, AND Billy Bow Legs. I *love* fireworks!!!

We're bbqing and will go watch the fireworks. All of our friends are out of town,

Phats

I guess we are going over to the in-laws and having dinner and probably get mysquito bit and watch them play horse shoes. I wish I could paly horse shoes, but I cannot grip nor throw them far or even in the right directions

I LOVE the smell of fireworks. I like the sulfer smell. I also LOVE the smell of matches after they are lit. We are not going to by fireworks, nor see any, except if the neighbors let some go.

Why not joonie?? AL has the best ones anyway. You know how many people here are gonna ride across the border, JUST to get fireworks? LOL They're illegal here, except for the glorified sparklers. ENJOY THEM!!taking our 1st trip to NYC and going to see a Yankees Game!Katie, because we do not have the money to get any. Maybe the in-laws will buy some. *shrugs*

OMG joonie i am the same way...I love the sulfer smell too...There was one night i was talkign to you and ummm yea on msn and just kept lighting matches

HMM im not sure what we are gonna do yet...Think we are gonna go to some friends of ours house for the day...We'll prolly watch fireworks out there.  Also have to help her get her house ready for her daughters birthday party..I LOVE cleaning other peoples houses...Yea im weird Joonie, you gotta wait until 6pm on the 4th, then go to one of the tents and you can basically blind side them with prices. They'll sell you what they have left for DIRT cause they can't store it all year. Hehehehe I know the tricks baby!

Doing a bbq and going to see the fireworks.  And setting off our own fireworks.

Katie is right about buying fireworks.  The places here right now have some good 2 for 1 nd 3 for 1 sales going on.  ROCK ON!!!

We might go to Springfield to capital city celebration if I feel well. Here in our county we have to have a special permit that costs big $ and a million dollar insurance policy. They are real strict about it. We can get sparklers, and pop rockets but not the good ones.

Grandpa stocked up on firecrackers and sparklers and my son has been driving us crazy all weekend about going to grandpa's. LOL

We live next to the Columbia river.  So it is firework on the river for us.  It stays light until about 9 so we have to wait a long time.  I guess I will be taking a nap.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five were captured by the British as traitors, tortured before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army.  Another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.  They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.  What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.

Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts and he died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters.  He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.

Some of us take these liberties so much for granted, but we shouldn't.

So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid.

*Please note..this was not written by me.  Sent to me in an email this morning.*
kskrause21....If the Mets are in town I would go see them. There a Much better team then the current Yankees.... 6t5 ANY team is better then they yankees I have given up on the Brewers.  It is not like me to give up on my hometown sports team either.  But ugh...c'mon people.  Maybe they are hitting the beer stand before playing.  They do play in MILLER Park for home games lol.   GO CUBBIES!!!!!!!!And what sport is this again? OMG Katie your fired!!!!!

I am going to have a big bbq for my family approx. 50 or more people,  if I can find the energy, right now I am at work and so fatigued I don't understand what is going on,

I could not imagine entertaining FIVE people let alone FIFTY people!  Are you crazy girl??  I am in the middle of an awful fatigue that has been going on a few weeks as well.  Sorry, haven't found anything to help yet but Neasy started a thread on whats helps the fatigue, grammaskittles takes proviginal (sp?) and someone else is taking adderal and they are supposed to help with the fatigue.  I am going to ask about them at my next appt in a few weeks.

First we will cook out, then we will go over to the next town and watch the fireworks.

They do the 4th  for the whole county. we are so small,  50,000 in the whole county  and its about 3600 square miles, that it doesnt pay for each village to have their own celebration

We are real cranks about home  fireworks. never ever did it, NEVER allowed our kids to have sparklers.  the wire gets as high as 1200 degrees.. I want to have fun not go to the ER.  Give me professional pyrotechnics

Well, we finally made plans! You're gonna giggle. :) We're going over to my friend Jamie's house, who's 100% British by the way, and he's gonna help us grill out Hahaha then it's time spent in the hot tub, and then off to the fireworks! How funny, it's not even a holiday he likes. LOL

Well, let's see. I've worked the past two days, I've had a headache the past two days, and I'm totally whipped. My plans? A date with my bed...and I'm talking breakfast in bed, lunch in bed, and dinner in bed. I'm doing absolutely nuttin' tomorrow. Ain't life grand???

Cute smiley Brisen!  I love fireworks and agree with Kathy that the professional pyrotechnics are the best .  I grew up in Orange County, CA not too far from Disneyland and thought everyone got to see fireworks at 9 pm every night.  Heck, we knew it was bedtime when we heard the Disneyland fireworks.   I just want to say Happy 4th of July, neighbours!Katie- I think its more funny that your going to your 100% British friends house to cook outside.........it will rain. It always does when you put one of "us " behind the BBQ.........The hot tub sounds good though.  Enjoy your HolidayJust to wish those Americans and Canadian members a wonderful and safe holiday.  If my family had not emigrated, I may very well have been either of those myself - my grandfather was born in Boston, and raised in Montreal.     Have a great day. LOL well, as usual, plans have changed. *sigh* My shoulder has decided to pull it's crap again, and now my stomach won't settle down. Justin is overly exhausted, which might mean he's about to flare. WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS!! >.< So today involves the bed, and the couch, and this puffy chair. *sigh* Oh well, there's always next year!

We had plans with a friend and her family who had to cancel at the last minute as she is leaving town tomorrow.  Instead I took my daughter to the ocean.

And I boogie boarded!  LOL.  Imagine a seriously overweight woman in a large print blue and white flowered mumu thing atop a hot pink boogie board.

Now to BBQ!  Hopefully I don't ignite something.  LOL.  Looks like no fireworks tho - the fog rolled in.

Pip

Oh neat Pip!!!  What was the boogie boarding like???  I want to do it sooooo bad.  Then again anything with water I love.  I can't wait to fix my knee so I can water ski next summer.  My SIL and BIL have a cottage up on Green Bay and they have a boat that everyone uses to water ski with.

Oh, gramma!

I was watching my friends boogie board and was thinking 'I want to try that' and then realized - why not?  I was awful - but I did it! LOL.  It's kind of 'fake' surfing (a secret desire of mine for years that I'm going to look into lessons for now that were on the coast).

Anyway, you go out into the water as deep as about backside level or a little higher and wait for a wave to crest behind you.  There were a ton of waves yesterday.  As the wave is coming in you wait until the foam is about 2 - 3 feet behind you then turn, face the shore, jump up on the board so that your neck and head is over the top of the board (shorter styrofoam surf board type) and grab on to the two outer edges of the top of the board.  Your belly and body lies flat on the board.  And you ride the board back to shore/sand.

Unless you're me.  In which case you are really glad the board is attached by a 6 foot cord to a velcro strap that goes around your wrist so when the wave pushes you off you don't have to go swimming off after the board!

But I did it!

And we had a BBQ and saw some of the fireworks as the fog burned off enough so that the fireworks were visible!  My daughter said it was 'the best day ever!'.

It was to me!

Pip

Sounds like a lovely day Pip!  Did you take any pictures????

Oh, right - me in my blue flowered muumuu!  I'd have broken a camera.  I can't believe I lost 20 lbs and IT DOESN'T SHOW!

Sigh,

Pip
